The League of Chicago Theatres held the 2018 Annual Gala, an elegant event that brings together friends of Chicago theatre to raise funds for programs to support Chicagoland's more than 250-member theatre companies. The event, which had 245 attendees and raised $125,000, was held on Monday, May 21, 2018 at the Four Seasons Hotel Chicago, 120 E. Delaware Place. 

Following its hit production of MACHINAL, Greenhouse Theater Center is pleased to continue its 2017-18 season with the return of Laurence Leamer's critically acclaimed drama ROSE. Recently honored with a 2017 Equity Joseph Jefferson Award for Best Solo Performance, celebrated Chicago actress Linda Reiter reprises her role as matriarch Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy in this intimate piece directed by Steve Scott. The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey wraps its 2017 season with a delightful adaptation of a treasured holiday film, It's a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play. After a successful staged reading of the play in 2016, director Doug West returns to direct this new take on a beloved tale. Adapter Joe Landry has brought the 1946 film to the stage where he has gathered a troupe of radio actors and live Foley sound artists to perform It's a Wonderful Life in a 1940s radio station. Even If you have premium seating at a Broadway musical or nightclub you still will not be able to feel that the beautiful girl with the spectacular voice performing on stage is singing just for you, and in your living room! Laura Osnes at Cafe Carlyle last night was acting and singing a few feet away from all of us in The Carlyle's legendary living room with her show called Cockeyed Optimists and as they say, you had to see it to believe it . Together with Ted Sperling and Laura's special guest Ryan Silverman they created The World of Rodgers and Hammerstein and it probably would be nominated for a Tony Award if it were in a theatre. The lucky audience that got to be up close and personal with Broadway royalty in Cafe Carlyle were at times overwhelmed with the beauty of the music being made by these three artists, who possess many theatre awards between them. So if you can join them, like all good hosts they are going to make sure there's plenty of good food, wine and conversation during your visit. You will even get to give them a hug and say goodnight to Laura, Ted, and Ryan after the show.

TheatreWorks Silicon Valley kicks off its 48th season with the World Premiere of The Four Immigrants: An American Musical Manga. Drawn from one of the first ever graphic novels, set to an infectious ragtime and vaudeville score by local composer/lyricist Min Kahng, the comic musical follows four Japanese immigrants in a world of possibility and prejudice: turn-of-the-twentieth-century San Francisco. TheatreWorks, the nationally acclaimed theatre of Silicon Valley, presents the regional premiere of the recent Broadway hit TIME STANDS STILL by Pulitzer Prize-winner Donald Margulies (Dinner with Friends, Brooklyn Boy). The play will be helmed by Leslie Martinson and stars Rebecca Dines and Mark Anderson Phillips in the pivotal roles of the photojournalist and war correspondent, with Rolf Saxon and Sarah Moser completing the cast. The Old Globe presents the West Coast Premiere of Divine Rivalry. Based on a real-life event, the drama about two of history's most famous artists-and one of history's most infamous statesmen-is written by Michael Kramer with D. S. Moynihan. Directed by Michael Wilson, Divine Rivalry runs now through August 5 on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the Old Globe Theatre, part of the Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. On Friday June 3rd Des McAnuff's new production of Jesus Christ Superstar opened at Stratford's Avon Theatre as part of the 2011 Stratford Shakespeare Festival's Season. People have been buzzing about it ever since. The rock musical has been re-envisioned by legendary director McAnuff, and BWW is thrilled to bring its readers photos from the show. Starting this month on the Hubbard stage is the Alley Theatre's powerful new production of Tracy's Lett's August: Osage County.
