This week marks the 75th anniversary of Rodgers & Hammerstein's musical film, State Fair!

Geva Theatre Center presents La Cage Aux Folles, with book by Harvey Fierstein, music and lyrics by Jerry Herman, based on the play by Jean Poiret, directed by Melissa Rain Anderson, with musical direction by Don Kot, and choreography by Sam Hay in the Elaine P. Wilson Stage from September 3 through October 6. 

As one of the nation's leading professional theaters and recipient of the Regional Theatre Tony Award, Paper Mill Playhouse (Mark S. Hoebee-Producing Artistic Director, Michael Stotts-Managing Director) has a well-earned reputation for launching both performers and shows to Broadway. Since their inception in 1996, the Paper Mill Playhouse Rising Star Awards for Excellence in High School Musical Theatre have ignited the careers of many notable performers, all of whom attended high school in New Jersey.

Musical Theatre Guild, the winner of the Los Angeles Drama Critic's Circle Margaret Harford Award for sustained excellence in the theatre, continued their 21st Anniversary Season with the award-winning Off-Broadway musical THE SPITFIRE GRILL.  The one-night-only concert took place at Glendale's historic Alex Theatre on Sunday, November 13, 2016 at 7:00 PM. Rodgers and Hammerstein's ever popular State Fair received its symphonic premiere on Sunday night at London's beautiful Cadogan Hall. The London Musical Theatre Orchestra, a 32-piece orchestra under the baton of founder and conductor Freddie Tapner, brought the rich music of the 1996 Broadway production about the Frake family and their trip to the Iowa State Fair, to life. In a double first for the LMTO, this was also the first full scale public performance by the company which debuted its inaugural gala, in June of this year, to a packed house at Bishopsgate Institute where they are orchestra in residence.  The concert was directed by award winning director and Evening Standard Awards nominee Thom Southerland featuring a cast of West End stars Wendi Peters, Clive Carter, Richard Fleeshman, Emma Hatton, Oliver Savile and Celine Schoenmaker. The score features favourites including It Might as Well Be Spring, You Never Had It So Good and The Man I Used to Be.

Set inside the sensationalized female murderess craze that swept 1920s Chicago, CHICAGO draws its audience into a world of crime and glitz against the vivid backdrop of the jazz age. A first time production for Pittsburgh CLO, CHICAGO is sure to be 'all that jazz' and more!

The Broadway at Birdland concert series was proud present the premiere of Donna McKechnie's new Talk/Variety show on Monday, December 9 at 7pm. Tony-winning choreographer/director Jerry Mitchell (Kinky Boots) was Donna's Very Special Guest for the evening, with singers Nick Adams and Nikki MacCallum singing songs from Mitchell's hit shows. Donna and Jerry discussed life, love, careers and even ended the evening with a good, old-fashioned soft-shoe, after Mitchell demonstrated his most successful audition tune, 'I Love A Piano!' RED DOG SQUADRON presents the West Coast premiere of greedy by Karl Gajdusek. RED DOG SQUADRON co-artistic director James Roday directs a cast that includes Amanda Detmer, Kurt Fuller, Peter Mackenzie, Ivana Milicevic, Brad Raider and Roday's co-star on the USA series psych, Maggie Lawson. The limited four-week engagement takes place at the El Centro Theatre, January 8-29.

Kathryn Crosby's LIFE WITH BING with Musical Direction by Edward Sayegh played last week at Cabaret at the Castle. In the show, Crosby performs classic songs of stage and screen, and shares anecdotes about the famous and their lives during Hollywood and Broadway's golden era. Broadway Tony-Award winning star Donna McKechnie debuted her brand-new incarnation of MY MUSICAL COMEDY LIFE in Australia, directed by Richard Jay-Alexander and presented by the Adelaide Cabaret Festival. Jones-Executive Director) The Rising Star Awards are modeled after the Tony® Awards and Paper Mill's program serves the entire state of New Jersey with 100 entered productions from high schools. The 2009 Rising Star Award ceremony was held at Paper Mill Playhouse on Tuesday, June 16th in which the nominees performed and the award recipients were presented with a crystal award from Rising Star Award partner Tiffany's & Co. Investors Savings Bank Foundation is the title sponsor of the 2009 Rising Star Awards.

Earlier this month, the cast of Off-Broadway's Be took to the streets as part of the Tribeca Film Festival's annual 'Family Festival' street fair.
