Casting has been announced for the national tour of 'The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess,' winner of the 2012 Tony Award for Best Musical Revival, which will open at the Center Theatre Group/Ahmanson Theatre on April 23 and play through June 1, 2014. According to a report in Variety, William H. Macy will team up with Sally Hawkins in Dirty Girl, a coming of age comedy about friendship and the search for identity set in the 1980s. The film is directed by Broadway performer and choreographer Abe Sylvia, who will be making his feature film directorial debut. The film is currently being shopped at the American Film Market. Continuing in its ongoing efforts of supporting new musical theater works, Eric Schaeffer, Artistic Director of Signature Theatre, announced today that the Tony Award®-winning theatre is commissioning two new musicals under Signature's American Musical Voices Project (AMVP): The Next Generation. Composers Joshua Rosenblum (Einstein's Dreams, Fermat's Last Tango) and Josh Schmidt (Adding Machine, A Minister's Wife) will be creating new musicals for future seasons at Signature. In December of 2011, Mr. Rosenblum and Mr. Schmidt were awarded "honoree grants" and shared selections from projects in development at a special performance held at Signature Theatre. (more...)

According to Variety, William H. Macy and Marisa Tomei are set to star in the upcoming legal thriller The Lincoln Lawyer. John Ramano's adaptation of Michael Connelly's book of the same title will be directed by Brad Furman. Macy and Tomei will be joining Matthew McConaughey, who has been attached to the film. Filming will begin in July, and the release date for the movie is still unknown. (more...)
