As BroadwayWorld reported yesterday, stage and screen star, Patricia Morison died at the age of 103 at home in Los Angeles of natural causes. A stage icon and legend best known for her starring roles in Cole Porter's Kiss Me Kate and The King & I opposite Yul Brynner, she established an indelible mark in films with a reputation as a the villainous femme fatale with large blue eyes and extremely long, dark hair that made her a favorite of studios and fans alike.

The Historic Ali Cultural Arts is proud to present a dramatic and revealing exhibit by multi-media artist and activist Niki Lopez. These Eyes: A Retrospective Exhibition delves into several distinct topics, drawing upon Niki's personal traumas, inspirations and fascinations. Lopez, who survived a childhood trapped in a cult, has garnered acclaim for her What's Your Elephant? series.

The award-winning Equity professional East Lynne Theater Company's production of Eugene O'Neill' 'Ah, Wilderness!' continues to delight audiences. This large-cast comedy from 1933 originally starred George M. Cohan in the role of Nat Miller, and Will Rogers played the role on the road the following year.  Nat is the editor of a newspaper in a Connecticut town in 1906, with a devoted wife and several children going through different phases of 'growing pains.' Mark Lazar, who was in ELTC's 'Zorro!,' is portraying this iconic role.  

For those who didn't have the opportunity to meet the cast of fourteen in East Lynne Theater Company's 'Ah, Wilderness!' at the after-show party at The Merion Inn, another chance is to be had on Friday, August 4 at an after-show Q&A.  It's a wonderful opportunity for patrons to ask the actors and  director such questions as how characters are created, what goes into selecting a season of plays, and where they have previously worked.  Actors in this production have a variety of backgrounds, including performing in regional theater, film and on Broadway, and are ages 12 on up.

'The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayam!'  That's the best of all!  'A jug of wine, a loaf of bread, and thou beside me singing in the wilderness,' announces seventeen-year old Richard, defending his choice of literature to his parents. His letters to seventeen-year-old Muriel contain quotes from Khayam and Swinburne.

Milwaukee Repertory Theater Artistic Director Mark Clements and Managing Director Chad Bauman are pleased to announce the 2017/18 Season with 13 productions in four venues spanning September 2017 - May 2018.  With the start of the 2017/18 Season both Artistic Director Mark Clements and Managing Director Chad Bauman will renew their contracts with Milwaukee Rep for an additional four and six years respectively.  Artistic Director Mark Clements began his tenure at Milwaukee Rep in 2010 by introducing a musical into the Quadracci Powerhouse season, creating the New Play Development program, and adapting and directing the world premiere production of A Christmas Carol this past December.   With this contract renewal through 2021 he will continue his commitment to presenting world class works on all three stages.    Managing Director Chad Bauman came to The Rep in 2013 and will continue through 2023 per his contract renewal.  In his time here he has implemented a fruitful strategic business model that supports the theater's artistic vision with a focus on quality, inclusion, citizenship, innovation, and stability.

Stage & Screen, a collaboration between Coolidge Corner Theatre and Huntington Theatre Company that explores the depictions of shared themes in Huntington productions and acclaimed films, announces four upcoming film screenings and post-screening conversations with Huntington artists and experts. The 2016 Jacob's Pillow Dance Award, a prestigious honor that carries a $25,000 cash prize, will be presented to contemporary choreographer, dancer, and artistic director Camille A. Brown in acknowledgement of her vision and outstanding contributions to the dance field. Regularly garnering acclaim for her 'vividness and versatility' (Alastair Macaulay, The New York Times), Brown holds a New York Dance and Performance ('Bessie') Award, two Princess Grace Awards, a Doris Duke Performing Artist Award, and her work has toured nationally and internationally. The Jacob's Pillow Dance Award was established in 2007 and, in honor of its 10th anniversary, the Pillow has broadened the scope of this honor with a commitment to the artist's growth and future work. In addition to the unrestricted cash prize, this Award also includes a committed engagement for the 2017 Festival and a Creative Development Residency at Jacob's Pillow. Previous recipients of the Jacob's Pillow Dance Award include the legendary choreographer Merce Cunningham; MacArthur Fellows Michelle Dorrance and Kyle Abraham; and John Heginbotham of Dance Heginbotham, among others.
