Artistic Director of Theatre Royal Stratford East, Kerry Michael today announces the cast for the world premiere of Bonnie Greer's new play The Hotel Cerise, directed by Femi Elufowoju, jr. Inspired by Chekhov's The Cherry Orchard the production is a key part of the theatre's focus on commissioning new work and adaptations. Ellen Thomas leads the company, with El Anthony, Madeline Appiah, Michael Bertenshaw, Nicholas Beveney, Andrew Dennis, Abhin Galeya, Lacharne Jolly, Corey Montague-Sholay, Claire Prempeh, Alexis Rodney and Angela Wynter. The stage will be transformed into a studio format nightclub installation where you sit on the stage for this funny yet heart-breaking tale directed by Associate Director, Pooja Ghai. Doors will open at 715pm for music and a bar on stage to soak up the atmosphere before the show. The experience will start then. Ghai directs Estella Daniels as Sophie and Lanre Malaolu as Abiodun. BWW Review: GLENGARRY GLEN ROSS Doesn't Close the Deal at Blank Canvas

David Mamet, the two-time Pulitzer Prize winner, and author of Glengarry Glen Ross, a play which is now on stage at Blank Canvas, is noted for his unique style of writing dialogue. Dubbed 'Mamet speak,' his vocal tone centers on precisely crafted street-smart narrative style. His characters talk 'real.' They sound like the way people from the geographical area and societal level from which they come would really speak. This is not 'speech for a play,' it is actual people speaking, with vocalized pauses ('ums,' 'you know,' and 'things like that.' (more...)
