Luxembourg & Dayan Presents THAT OBSCURE OBJECT OF DESIRE, 8/14-10/4
by BWW News Desk - Jul 30, 2014

In Luis Buñuel's 1977 film “That Obscure Object of Desire,” the hero lusts after a tantalizing and elusive woman. His obsession spirals out of control, clouding his judgment and ultimately leading him to a state of utter submissiveness. Borrowing the title of Buñel's film, Luxembourg & Dayan is pleased to present an exhibition that explores the dark side of desire, highlighting the often-suppressed connection between an artwork and a fetishized object. The process of object making is here explored as an obsessive endeavor akin in its intensity to erotic infatuation. Each of the artists represented in That Obscure Object of Desire is continuously drawn to forms, processes, and materials with bodily connotations that oscillate between the sexual and the abject, reworked in countless variations. 3-D Scanning: Technologies and Global Markets
by BWW News Desk - Jul 23, 2014

LONDON, July 23, 2014 /PRNewswire/ has added a new market research report:3-D Scanning: Technologies and Global Markets HIGHLIGHTSGlobal revenue for the three-dimensional (3-D) scanning market totaled about $3.8 billion in 2012 and nearly $4.5 billion in 2013. This market is expected to be valued at nearly $8.9 billion in 2018, rising at a five-year compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 14.7% from 2013 to 2018.This report provides:An overview of the global market for three-dimensional scanning.Analyses of global market trends, with data from 2012, estimates for 2013, and projections of CAGRs through 2018.Specific information on various 3-D technologies such as structured light modulation and conoscopic holography.Detailed patent analysis, especially pertaining to picoprojector developments.Comprehensive profiles of leading generics companies, and updates on mergers and acquisitions.STUDY GOALS AND OBJECTIVESThe chief goal of this BCC Research report is to provide a market overview for three-dimensional (3-D) scanning technology that evaluates the current status of the market, the changes from 2012 to 2013, and the projections for the market's likely state in 2018. It contains an in-depth discussion of laser triangulation, conoscopic holography, and structured light scanning technologies as well as an overview of time-of-flight scanning.Secondary focuses include an introduction to the critical technical concepts needed to understand 3-D scanning, an analysis of patents relevant to the market, and a profile of 3-D scanning manufacturers and service providers. These elements serve to lay a conceptual foundation upon which comprehension of the core market analyses and forecasts of the report is built.REASONS FOR DOING THE STUDY3-D scanning technology allows the rapid and accurate creation of a computer model from a physical object. It has applications in almost every industry from manufacturing to entertainment, and rapid development of the technology is allowing simultaneous increases in performance and decreases in cost. These advances will allow the penetration of 3-D scanning into additional markets and industries, as well as deepening its importance to those markets and industries in which it is already used. Each of the approaches to 3-D scanning has advantages and disadvantages that suit them to particular applications, though advances in the capabilities of any given technique cause fluctuations in the borders of these dominances. Such fluctuations have the potential to create new niches that can be exploited by aware market participants. There are also developing technologies with the potential to challenge the role of 3-D scanners in certain applications or to augment their capabilities in others.SCOPE AND FORMATThis BCC Research study has been conducted with a global perspective on 3-D scanning devices, services, and applications. The market analyses herein thus also form a global perspective on the present and future state of the 3-D scanning market. All monetary table values are in 2013 U.S. dollars. The report is intended to provide business planners and managers with an improved understanding of the various directions in which this market and technology are developing. Through this lens we examine the opportunities that will be created, from both technological development and expanded awareness and realization of 3-D scanning's capabilities for a variety of verticals. The report contains:In-depth analyses of the key 3-D scanning technologies as well as an overview of the relevant aspects of important competing and complementary technologies.Information about recent technical developments and patents for laser triangulation, conoscopic holography, structured light, and other 3-D scanning technologies.Current and potential applications for 3-D scanning devices and services.Market sizing and projections through 2018 by application, technology, and region.Profiles of industry players in both the device and services sectors of the 3-D scanning market.Analysis of the opportunities for both current industry participants and new entrants. The report focuses on the near-field scanning market, excluding systems designed for the scanning of objects more than a few meters in extent or distance from the scanner. This distinction is based on the deeply interconnected relations in technology and applications that bind the near-field technologies together to form a cohesive and well-defined market. From this follows the relatively light attention given to time-of-flight scanning as a technology. Certain applications of time-of-flight scanning infringe on the edges of the 3-D art sector, but for a very limited set of applications that are very distinct and governed by different market forces than those examined in detail in this report. BCC Research feels that the qualitative and quantitative judgments contained in this report represent a valuable contribution to understanding the 3-D scanning market.INTENDED AUDIENCEThrough this new report, BCC Research seeks to provide a better understanding of the global 3-D scanning market's present and future prospects. It provides up-to-date information on the technologies, manufacturers, developers, and users of 3-D scanning. It is directed at many companies and institutions interested in developments, both of technology and market factors, in this growing field. A non-exhaustive list of those who will benefit from this report includes:Companies involved in the development, manufacturing, and sale of 3-D scanners and their components.Companies providing 3-D scanning and digitalization services.Companies that rely on 3-D scanning technology for quality control of their product lines.Manufacturing companies for which 3-D scanning can greatly improve in-line quality control.3-D art companies for which 3-D scanning is an option for the digitalization of physical models, actors, and other assets.Companies involved in rapid prototyping and reverse engineering tasks.Hospitals and research institutes for which 3-D scanning can be used to generate models of anatomical features for surgery or training.Companies with machine shops for which 3-D scanners can allow rapid comparison of in-process parts with plans.METHODOLOGY AND INFORMATION SOURCESInformation for this report was collected through extensive contact with individuals and organizations active in the research, development, and production of 3-D scanning technology, as well as from industrial, academic, and technical literature.
