Cabrillo Music Theatre's mission is to introduce the musical theatre experience to socially, culturally, economically diverse, and underserved populations of Southern California. The Sound of Music tells the story of Maria, a young, aspiring but quirky nun who brightens the lives of the von Trapp children and captures the heart of their stern and lonely father. But, will their harmonious lives be torn apart when their beautiful homeland is ravaged by war? Rodgers and Hammerstein's Tony Award-winning musical delights audiences with the uplifting story and an irresistible score: 'Climb Every Mountain,' 'Do-Re-Mi,' 'Edelweiss' and 'My Favorite Things.'

Rodgers and Hammerstein's The Sound of Music could very well be the most-often viewed of the legendary duo's iconic works for the musical theatre, what with the seemingly endless parade of televised airings of the acclaimed 1965 film version, the frequent professional revivals of the stage show and, of course, the fondness for the piece exemplified by the multiple stagings in little theaters all over the world. The Sound of Music will close The Rose's 2010/2011 season and kick off the summer with an experience families won't soon forget. The classic musical about Maria and the von Trapp family will feature 'a few of our fav-or-ite things' - familiar songs, vibrant sets and a selection of the finest actors and actresses including Broadway star Kirk Vaughn-Robinson - June 3 to 19. 'The Sound of Music is based on a real family and real events, and when the characters break into song and dance, it is because they have so much to express and words simply do not do the emotions justice!' said guest Director Jennifer Holcombe.
