Valentin is a tough political revolutionary undergoing torture. Molina is an unabashedly gay man serving time for deviant behavior. Molina recounts to Valentin his favorite movie-musical fantasies, and it becomes a mental refuge for both as the lines of fantasy and reality become blurred. This compelling musical drama resonates love, longing and liberation.

Lynn Ahrens, Stephen Flaherty and Terrence McNally's RAGTIME, which was a critically acclaimed sell out at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. now looks set to bring it's 'new music' to Broadway. While there is no official word or comment an Equity casting notice has been posted to Backstage for a Broadway/Production contract for RAGTIME. The notice states rehearsal and performance dates are to be announced. Equity principal auditions will be held June 22, 24 and 25 while Equity chorus calls are June 26 for dancers and June 23 for singers.

Doctorow, the production features book by Terrence McNally, music by Stephen Flaherty and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens, and will be directed and choreographed by Marcia Milgrom Dodge. The musical is part of the Kennedy Center's Broadway: The Third Generation, a series celebrating the current generation of Broadway musical composers. It was announced today that MEMPHIS, a new musical about the birth of rock 'n' roll in the turbulent 50s which recently played a critically acclaimed and sold-out engagement at Seattle?s 5th Avenue Theatre, is aiming to open on Broadway in the fall of 2009. The New York Times is reporting that famed Costume Designer Florence Klotz's Tony Award is for sale on eBay, the starting bid for the trophy at $10,000 (with an option to buy it outright for $20,000). But the Times has a huge inaccuracy in the piece, as they describe Ms. Klotz herself as posting the auction, which is fairly impossible as she sadly passed away in 2006.
