LA Opera will soon present the first full-scale production in this century of John Corigliano's grand opera buffa, one of the most acclaimed operas of our time. Extravagantly scaled, gloriously tuneful, supremely touching and yet uproariously entertaining, The Ghosts of Versailles turns history on its head as love attempts to alter the course of destiny. Running February 7- March 1, 2015, the production will feature direction by Tony winner Darko Tresnjak.

Following the success of the mesmerizingly beautiful Thais,Plácido Domingo and soprano Nino Machaidze come together once again in this Giuseppe Verdi classic under the baton of Music Director James Conlon. Maestro Conlon will also conduct our highly anticipatedFigaro Trilogy which follows the development of Figaro, one of opera's most famous characters, from barber to bridegroom to older-but-still-wily servant in Corigliano's The Ghosts of Versailles (Feb. 23-Mar. 1, 2015), Rossini's The Barber of Seville (Feb. 28-Mar. 22, 2015) and Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro (Mar. 21-Apr. 12, 2015).
BWW CD Reviews: A Second Take on GENTLEMAN'S GUIDE

Back in April, I had the pleasure of reviewing A GENTLEMAN'S GUIDE TO LOVE AND MURDER (Original Broadway Cast Recording). My initial thoughts were that the recording was witty and intriguing, but without the context of the show I couldn't really connect with it. Conversely, I got to see a recent performance of the Tony Award winning comedic musical. Upon revisiting the album, I can't shake most of the deliciously clever songs.

As previously reported, the Tony Awards Administration Committee determined that Best Sound Design of a Play and Best Sound Design of a Musical Categories would be eliminated from the established list of competitive categories, beginning with the 2014-2015 season. The Tony Administration Committee may bestow a Special Tony Award to a production when it determines that extraordinary sound design has been achieved.

Plus, newly crowned Tony king Neil Patrick Harris got lucky in front of an audience of millions in full crazypants HEDWIG & THE ANGRY INCH drag, while Audra McDonald made history by winning her sixth statuette. And, Oz course, a WICKED 10th anniversary, too!
Jefferson Mays to Tour GENTLEMAN'S GUIDE?

Jefferson Mays has found his niche role in A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder, in which he plays 9 different characters and changes costume 15 times throughout the show. The line outside the Walter Kerr Theatre at the end of each show is insanely long with audience members waiting to applaud his performance. Even Mays' wife, Susan Lyon, commented, 'This is almost as many people as they have for James Franco, [in Of Mice and Men].' And now, according to The New York Times, there is some good news for the after-life of this musical: Jefferson Mays is considering touring with the production.
