"Pippin" is the captivating coming of age story about a young man's search for meaning in his life, as told by a lively band of troubadours in the Roman Empire. The episodic quest of Pippin, the son of the powerful Charlemagne, takes him through battlefields, orgies, revolution, and finally, love and domesticity, as he tries to find a place for his "spirit to run free," for his "corner of the sky." This production interweaves music, voice, American Sign Language and dance, and combines powerful storytelling techniques from both hearing and deaf cultures.
Finally appearing together again after their Tony Award? winning performances in Evita, Patti LuPone joins Mandy Patinkin onstage for An Evening with Patti LuPone and Mandy Patinkin. These Broadway legends will bring their critically acclaimed theatre concert to the Fisher Theatre, April 14 -19, 2009.
East West Players (EWP), the nation's premier Asian American theatre, increases their star-studded evening with appearances from some of Asian America's top media personalities. Leading the evening's festivities as Master and Mistress of Ceremonies will be actor Francois Chau and actress Tamlyn Tomita. There will also be appearance by Carrie Ann Inaba, State Controller John Chiang, Amy Hill, HGTV's Jonathan Fong and performances by TAIKOPROJECT and vocalist Ethan Le Phong. Upright Cabaret producers Chris Isaacson and Shane Sheel will present a trio of shows entitled Upright Cabaret's Wicked Summer Nights: Beyond the Yellow Brick Road at the Ford Amphitheatre in Los Angeles, beginning in June. The shows will star pivotal performers and figures that have created and shaped Wicked, the powerhouse Broadway musical which tells the story of the two witches of Oz long before Dorothy showed up. Old Globe Executive Producer Lou Spisto recently announced that the theatre will present a special one-night engagement of Stephen Schwartz and Friends..
