The Public Theater (Artistic Director Oskar Eustis; Executive Director Interim Executive Director, Joey Parnes) announced today that it will present TIMON OF ATHENS as the inaugural production of Public LAB SHAKESPEARE, a vital new platform for The Public's ongoing exploration of the Shakespeare canon that will continue the growth of The Public's Shakespeare Initiative and expand the many ways The Public produces American interpretations of Shakespeare.

'The Merchant of Venice' from the acclaimed Theatre for a New Audience, stars Oscar winner F. Murray Abraham ('Amadeus,' 1984) in his riveting portrayal of Shylock, and directed by Darko Tresnjak (former Artistic Director, Old Globe). The play has been arousing for centuries with raucous and gentle comedy, tender poetry, and its struggle with mercy and justice. Tony and Olivier Award winning star Mark Rylance (La Bête, Boeing-Boeing) will recreate his wildly acclaimed, multi award-winning performance as Johnny ‘Rooster' Byron on Broadway in the Royal Court Theatre production of Jez Butterworth's universally heralded new play, JERUSALEM. The production, directed by Ian Rickson, will also star Mackenzie Crook (The Seagull, 'The Office') as Ginger and most of the original Royal Court cast, with full casting to be announced at a later date. JERUSALEM will open on Broadway on April 21, 2011 at the Music Box Theatre (239 West 45th Street). Previews will begin on April 2, 2011. The production will play a limited 16-week engagement.

Asolo Repertory Theatre's production of Bonnie & Clyde opened on November 19. Jay Handelman reports in today's Herald-Tribune that the show is heading next to Broadway in August of 2011. The article reports that: 'We're planning to go to Broadway in August. We're going to Broadway, absolutely,' said Jerry Frankel, a veteran Broadway producer who is partnered with Jeffrey Richards. They are represented on Broadway by 'Bloody Blood Andrew Jackson,' 'The Merchant of Venice' with Al Pacino and 'A Life in the Theatre.'

Star of the stage and screen, Jill Clayburgh passed away yesterday, November 5, at the age of 66. Clayburgh lost a 21 year battle with chronic leukemia. Clayburgh is survived by her husband, playwright David Rabe, and her daughter, Lily Rabe, who is currently starring in the Broadway production of 'The Merchant of Venice.'
