Game Show - 2000 - Off-Broadway History , Info & More

"Even the audience wins at Game Show," was the headline from the critic's review in the Los Angeles Times. This comedy goes behind the scenes and then in front of the cameras as it follows five fascinating contestants: a fidgety Vietnam veteran; a know-it-all senator's assistant; a cocky young filmmaker; a dizzy housewife/author; and a bubbly senior citizen—from the time they meet backstage at a popular game show until one of them wins the grand prize. Who wins the big money is one of Game Show's several compelling subplots. Another is the possibility of a rekindled romance between one of the contestants and the show's production assistant. And then there are the hilarious antics of the game show's narcissistic emcee and his beautiful bimbo of an assistant. Who was the only bachelor president? What boy dubbed Lauren Becall's voice when she sang in To Have and Have Not? What was unusual about Babe Ruth's uniform when he hit 60 home runs? These and other intriguing questions are answered during Game Show, a warm and witty look at an American institution—the television game show. Please note that this play has some strong language which may be deleted.

BWW EXCLUSIVE: Jerry Springer Talks TV, DWTS, Broadway & PETER PAN in London
by Robert Diamond - Dec 21, 2010

Celebrating twenty years of THE JERRY SPRINGER SHOW on the air, the controversial talk show host and stage personality was kind enough to set aside some time this week to talk to me about his stints as Billy Flynn in CHICAGO - on Broadway and in the West End - as well as joining recent InDepth InterView participants Raul Esparza and Alice Ripley onstage as the Narrator in the 2000 revival of THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW on Broadway. Coming up, Jerry will be playing the role of Captain Hook in the UK special holiday event panto production of PETER PAN next month. In this revealing discussion, we also touch upon the rise of reality TV, DANCING WITH THE STARS, Howard Stern, Rosie O'Donnell, why theatre is the best art form on the planet, and much, much more. And, no theatre-centric Springer discussion would be complete without a thorough analysis of the shockingly brilliant JERRY SPRINGER: THE OPERA, winner of the Olivier Award for Best Musical and now available on Region 2 DVD.
