Ardea Arts announces BOUNCE The Basketball Opera, their latest project in development. Showcase performances will take place at Paerdegat Park in East Flatbush, Brooklyn Today-Monday June 25-27, 2016 at 6pm.
Prospect Theater Company, under the leadership of Cara Reichel, Producing Artistic Director and Melissa Huber, Managing Director, in partnership with producer Alexander Baron, continues its 2016 IGNITE Series at The TimesCenter (242 W 41st Street), with a one-night concert of Vote For Me: A Musical Debate, by Drew Fornarola and Scott Elmegreen, authors of the recent Off-Broadway hit, Straight. Vote For Me is an irreverent, 90-minute one-act musical that pits two fictional Presidential candidates against each other, singing their way through the three-ring circus of American politics and hot-button issues, with the outcome of the debate -- and finale of the show -- determined by audience vote. The concert will take place on Saturday, June 25 at 8pm at The TimesCenter (242 West 41st Street, NYC).
National Endowment for the Arts Chairman Jane Chu has approved more than $82 million to fund local arts projects and partnerships in the NEA's second major funding announcement for fiscal year 2016. Included in this announcement is an Art Works award of $14,000 to Ardea Arts for the creation ofBOUNCE The Basketball Opera. The Art Works category supports the creation of work and presentation of both new and existing work, lifelong learning in the arts, and public engagement with the arts through 13 arts disciplines or fields.

Described by the San Francisco Chronicle as 'mystical music with a modern edge,' Niyaz-which means 'yearning' in both Farsi and Urdu-blend medieval Sufi poetry and folk songs from their native Iran with acoustic instrumentation and modern electronic rhythms. The result is a distinctively twenty-first-century global trance sound that crosses not only stylistic and cultural boundaries but generational ones as well. The music is enhanced by Ali's rich, plaintive vocals and by conscientious, spiritual lyrics that explore the plight of immigrants and minority ethnic and religious groups. Niyaz-who from the beginning have strived to create social and political awareness through their work-use the beauty of their music and the artistry of their lyrics to speak out against injustice and oppression.
