Quality Hill Playhouse in Kansas City, Mo. presents Rhapsody in Gershwin, a tribute to the works of brothers George and Ira Gershwin. Commissioned in the 1920s and 1930s the brothers wrote songs for Broadway, jazz clubs, concert halls, and films. Rhapsody in Gershwin opens on June 6 on the stage at Quality Hill Playhouse.
The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts will host 22 theatrical offerings from 20 different countries during WORLD STAGES: International Theater Festival 2014 that will run for three weeks March 10-30, 2014 throughout the Center. The international festival features contemporary theater works offering 13 fully staged productions, 4 theater-focused installations, 3 readings of new works, and 2 forums. From Olivier and Tony Award-winning puppetry to innovative perspectives on old classics, a diverse showcase of theatrical expression will be represented by countries spanning the globe including Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, England, France, Iceland, Iraq, Israel, Japan, Kuwait, Mexico, Pakistan, Palestine, Scotland, South Africa, Sudan, Syria, and the United States.
Broadway veterans Heidi Blickenstaff and Aaron Ramey, and Emmy Award Winner and Tony Nominee Gordon Clapp are among this year's Vermont BroadwayWorld Award nominees. Shows from a large cross-section of professional, semi-professional, and community theater groups are also represented in the 2012-2013 nominations. Pointless Theatre, DC's premiere puppet company, announces its 2013-2014 season, featuring new adaptations of two previous productions from Pointless:Cab Calloway's Minnie the Moocher and Sleeping Beauty: A Puppet Ballet. Pointless Theatre has both shows lined up over the next year at CulturalDC's Mead Theatre Lab at Flashpoint (916 G St. NW). Minnie the Moocher plays January 1-25, 2014, and Sleeping Beauty: A Puppet Ballet,part of CulturalDC's Mead Theatre Lab Program, plays April 9-May 3, 2014.
At a benefit event held for New Georges on Sunday, September 22, Producing Artistic Director Susan Bernfield and board member Michael Osso announced a new program at New Georges, The Audrey Residencies, and the artists and projects chosen for 2013-14, the program's inaugural year. Sunday's event also featured the premiere showing of a video about New Georges produced by tdf for tdfSTAGES' Meet the Theatre series and directed by Mark Blankenship, tdf's online content editor, to be released in early November.
Off-Broadway's award-winning Irish Repertory Theatre launches its 26th season with a revival of Sean O'Casey's JUNO AND THE PAYCOCK, directed by Irish Rep Artistic Director Charlotte Moore. With a cast that features, among others, J. Smith-Cameron as Juno Boyle, Ciaran O'Reilly as 'Captain' Jack Boyle, and John Keating as Joxer Daly, JUNO AND THE PAYCOCK will begin performances on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at the Irish Repertory Theatre (132 West 22nd Street).

Even though Dressler is ninety-three years old, LA burglar Junior Bender is quaking in his boots when Dressler's henchman haul him in for a meeting. Dressler wants Junior to solve a “crime” he believes was committed more than sixty years ago, when an old friend of his, once-famous starlet Dolores La Marr, had her career destroyed after compromising photos were taken of her at a Las Vegas party. Dressler wants justice for Dolores and the shining career she never had.

The show is set in the world of 1930's serial adventure stories like Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers, but with a very modern sense of humor. Upon arrival, the audience will be immersed in the world of a 1930's cinema, and the entire show (including the live portions!) is in black and white.
