Mad Cow Theatre Announces Gala Opening of New Theatre Complex

The 28th Annual STAGE Benefit was held last weekend at the Saban Theatre Beverly Hills to benefit AIDS Project Los Angeles. Entitled 'Original Cast 3,' it featured performers doing songs from shows with which they are associated. The event raised more than $200,000 for APLA's work with clients living with HIV and AIDS in Los Angeles County. It's 1957 on an excruciatingly hot day in New York and twelve men of different upbringings, professions, demeanors, beliefs, and ages are locked in a room to decide the fate of a young man who has been accused of stabbing and killing his father. The guys are sure they will be home in time to catch the Yankees game. It's an open and shut case. Everyone thinks so… until Juror #8 reveals that he's not positive that the young man is guilty. This admission of reasonable doubt ignites the unreasonable amongst these strangers, and so begins the riveting production of Reginald Rose's Twelve Angry Men playing through February 5th at Merrick Theatre and Center for the Arts. BWW Reviews: Stray Dog Theatre Presents David Sedaris' THE SANTALAND DIARIES

As a critic, over a relatively short period of time, I've seen several different plays several Different Times, and with each repeat viewing I've had to start weighing exactly how I felt about a script to begin with against the specific work of a performer (especially during a solo piece) and how they were directed, as would be expected. But, as a writer it's all about making what you've seen before, fresh again. Though, I'd missed my original booking of THE SANTALAND DIARIES, I'd made it a point to come back so I could check out the lead, and although I still prefer my original experience, this was a well done take on the work of David Sedaris, which certainly benefited greatly from a much grander costume and scenic design than the original version. Today we are kicking off Broadway World's multi-part series of interviews with the stars of the 2011 Kennedy Center produced and Eric Schaeffer directed production of Stephen Sondheim & James Goldman's seminal showbiz musical, FOLLIES, currently in previews on Broadway at the Marquis Theater. Suave leading man Ron Raines sheds light on the central, pivotal role of Benjamin Stone and how he sees the character - in his youth, in his marriage, in the present and, also, in the future, post-Loveland and, even post-FOLLIES - as well as illuminates his interactions with the colorful array of stars he shares the stage with eight nights a week - chief among them: Bernadette Peters, Elaine Paige and Jan Maxwell! Additionally, we discuss what has changed in the transfer from Washington, D.C. to NYC, as well as examine the underlying message and story told in Ben's stunning musical triptych of 'The Road You Didn't Take', 'Too Many Mornings' and 'Live, Laugh, Love'.
