BWW Reviews: The Verdict is in - TWELVE ANGRY MEN Makes a Strong Case
by Estelle Hallick - Jan 23, 2012

It's 1957 on an excruciatingly hot day in New York and twelve men of different upbringings, professions, demeanors, beliefs, and ages are locked in a room to decide the fate of a young man who has been accused of stabbing and killing his father. The guys are sure they will be home in time to catch the Yankees game. It's an open and shut case. Everyone thinks so… until Juror #8 reveals that he's not positive that the young man is guilty. This admission of reasonable doubt ignites the unreasonable amongst these strangers, and so begins the riveting production of Reginald Rose's Twelve Angry Men playing through February 5th at Merrick Theatre and Center for the Arts. August Wilson Theatre Gets New ProBax Seating
by BWW News Desk - Jan 11, 2012

Last night, American theatergoers experienced for the first time the comfort of the revolutionary ProBax® seating technology, when Jujamcyn Theaters unveiled the August Wilson Theatre's brand new seats. Setting a new standard in comfort, the Broadway house -- currently home to the smash hit Jersey Boys -- is the first American theater to utilize this ergonomic seating. Using dual density foams to encourage an anatomically correct posture, the patented ProBax® cushions reduce back ache and muscle fatigue from sitting. In a theatrical setting, they allow the audience to focus more freely on the show, while reducing the need to shift and fidget. Also, by encouraging a more upright posture, they allow for more comfortable leg space. Widely used in the automotive industry, and in select theaters abroad, this cutting-edge technology had never been used in a North American entertainment venue until now. (more...)

BWW Reviews: Stray Dog Theatre Presents David Sedaris' THE SANTALAND DIARIES
by Chris Gibson - Dec 19, 2011

As a critic, over a relatively short period of time, I've seen several different plays several Different Times, and with each repeat viewing I've had to start weighing exactly how I felt about a script to begin with against the specific work of a performer (especially during a solo piece) and how they were directed, as would be expected. But, as a writer it's all about making what you've seen before, fresh again. Though, I'd missed my original booking of THE SANTALAND DIARIES, I'd made it a point to come back so I could check out the lead, and although I still prefer my original experience, this was a well done take on the work of David Sedaris, which certainly benefited greatly from a much grander costume and scenic design than the original version. SPOTLIGHT ON FOLLIES 2011: Ron Raines
by Pat Cerasaro - Aug 24, 2011

Today we are kicking off Broadway World's multi-part series of interviews with the stars of the 2011 Kennedy Center produced and Eric Schaeffer directed production of Stephen Sondheim & James Goldman's seminal showbiz musical, FOLLIES, currently in previews on Broadway at the Marquis Theater. Suave leading man Ron Raines sheds light on the central, pivotal role of Benjamin Stone and how he sees the character - in his youth, in his marriage, in the present and, also, in the future, post-Loveland and, even post-FOLLIES - as well as illuminates his interactions with the colorful array of stars he shares the stage with eight nights a week - chief among them: Bernadette Peters, Elaine Paige and Jan Maxwell! Additionally, we discuss what has changed in the transfer from Washington, D.C. to NYC, as well as examine the underlying message and story told in Ben's stunning musical triptych of 'The Road You Didn't Take', 'Too Many Mornings' and 'Live, Laugh, Love'. As if all that were not enough, Raines and I cast a glance back at his previous stage and screen work and discuss his solo albums, upcoming concert appearances and much, much more! Plus, first news of his essaying of the title role in SWEENEY TODD with Karen Ziemba in St. Louis next summer, directed by the helmer of the original Christopher Bond play that inspired Sondheim to compose the musical adaptation in the first place back in 1969.
