Portland Center Stage Presents AN ILIAD, 10/1

Former Ashland Associate Artistic Director Penny Metropulos and veteran performer Joseph Graves will pick up the gauntlet thrown by adaptors Denis O'Hare and Lisa Peterson and spin the western world's oldest yarn into a freshly riveting tale in An Iliad, launching a thousand ships this Fall in the Ellyn Bye Studio. An Iliad previews on Tuesday September 28th, opens on Friday, October 1st, and runs Tuesday through Sunday through November 21st. Tickets start at $32, with student and under 30 discounts available. Rush tickets are $20. Show times are 7:30 pm Tuesday through Saturday, with a 2:00 pm Sunday matinee and alternating Saturday 2:00 pm and Sunday 7:30 pm performances. Broadway's landmark musical event THE LION KING recently welcomed to the company: GARETH SAXE as the evil and power-hungry lion Scar; ALTON FITZGERALD WHITE as Mufasa, the great lion warrior and ruler of the Pridelands; CAMERON POW as the prim and proper hornbilled bird Zazu; BEN JEFFREY as the carefree warthog Pumbaa; FRED BERMAN as the wisecracking meerkat Timon; and CHAUNTEÉ SCHULER as the loyal lioness Nala. Jeffrey, Berman and Schuler will mark their Broadway debut with The Lion King. Produced by Thomas Schumacher of Disney Theatrical Productions, THE LION KING is currently playing at Broadway's Minskoff Theatre (200 West 45th Street).

According to Deadline, Sam Raimi is confirmed to direct Disney's highly anticipated Wizard of Oz Prequel, 'Oz: The Great and Powerful'. The deal was confirmed last night by Creative Artists Agency (CAA). Additionally, Robert Downey Jr. is rumored to be in talks to star as the Wizard.

Rehearsals begin today, Monday, April 5 for the World Premiere production of PARADISE FOUND, a new musical under the combined direction of Theater legend and 21-time Tony Award winner Harold Prince (the original productions of Cabaret, Sweeney Todd, A Little Night Music, The Phantom of the Opera, Company, Follies, Evita) and 5-time Tony Award winner Susan Stroman (Crazy For You, Show Boat, The Producers, Contact). This is their first collaboration since the landmark, Tony Award-winning revival of Show Boat. Following the New York rehearsal period, the production will open at London's acclaimed Menier Chocolate Factory with performances running May 19 through June 26.
