LCT3’s 4000 MILES Begins Previews Monday

Previews begin Monday, June 6th at 8pm, for the LCT3 production of 4000 Miles, a new play by Amy Herzog, directed by Daniel Aukin. LCT3 is Lincoln Center Theater's programming initiative devoted to producing the work of new artists and developing new audiences. 4000 Miles is the final of three productions during its 2010-2011 season. Opening night is Monday, June 20 at 6:45 pm at The Duke on 42nd Street, a New 42nd Street® project (229 West 42 Street).

Rehearsals Begin for LCT's 4000 MILES

LCT3, Lincoln Center Theater's programming initiative devoted to producing the work of new artists and developing new audiences, has begun rehearsals for its world premiere of 4000 Miles, a new play by Amy Herzog, directed by Daniel Aukin. Greta Lee and Zoe Winters will join the previously announced Gabriel Ebert and Mary Louise Wilson in the third production of LCT3's 2010-2011 season. 4000 Miles will begin performances Monday, June 6, and run through Saturday, July 2 at The Duke on 42nd Street, a New 42nd Street® project (229 West 42 Street). Opening night is Monday, June 20.

In celebration of its 15th Anniversary season, Rattlestick Playwrights Theater will present theaterjam, a one-day festival featuring the work of many of the company's favorite playwrights, actors and directors. The event will take place at the Rattlestick Theatre (224 Waverly Place - off Seventh Avenue South between West 11th & Perry Streets) on Sunday, March 28th. Doors will open at 3:00pm. There is a $10 admission charge (cash only) for all day entry - and includes one free beer! There will even be a raffle drawing for amazing prizes. Patrons are free to come and go as they please and attend any - or all! - of the festival's many offerings.

This year's Critics Circle Awards, sponsored by Actor's Equity Association, today announced is nominees for excellence in San Francisco Bay area theater. Berkeley Rep's production of American Idiot, which played in the fall of 2009, leads with 12 nominations and will open on Broadway this spring.

Count me among the many who consider Wilde's 1895 manners masterpiece to be the funniest play ever penned in the English language. Unfortunately, I've seen too many productions that seemed so focused on petty annoyances like character development and acting choices that they've missed the obvious fact that Earnest is a vehicle for some of Wilde's most t-shirt and coffee mug worthy witticisms:

Lynn Redgrave stars as 'Lady Bracknell' in Paper Mill's production of The Importance of Being Earnest. Oscar Wilde's masterpiece of modern comedy is directed by David Schweizer and celebrated Opening Night on Sunday, January 18th. BroadwayWorld's cameras were there to capture the starry celebration! Paper Mill's production of The Importance of Being Earnest runs through February 15, 2009. The Importance of Being Earnest is about maintaining fictitious identities to avoid unwelcome social obligations. Jack Worthing's brother, Earnest, provides Jack with the excuse to escape from his dull home in the country to frolic in town. The home of Algernon Moncreiff's friend Bunbury provides a convenient locale for taking adventures in the country. The problem? Earnest and Bunbury are imaginary, created by Jack and Algernon to add a dash of excitement to their lives. Their deceptions eventually cross paths, resulting in a series of hilarious crises that threaten to spoil their romantic pursuits.

Lynn Redgrave stars as 'Lady Bracknell' in Paper Mill's upcoming production of The Importance of Being Earnest. Oscar Wilde's masterpiece of modern comedy will be directed by David Schweizer and is running at the Millburn theatre from January 14 through February 15, 2009. Lynn Redgrave is the Golden Globe? winner and Academy Award? nominee for Gods and Monsters (1998) and Georgy Girl (1966). Ms. Redgrave won the 2003 Drama Desk Award for Talking Heads as Outstanding Featured Actress in a Play. In 2006, she was nominated for a Tony Award? for Best Actress in a Play for The Constant Wife. She was also nominated for a Grammy? Award for The Witches in the category of Best Spoken Word Album for Children. Ms. Redgrave was a founding member of Britain's National Theatre, now the Royal National Theatre, under the direction of Sir Laurence Olivier. She has also written the text for Journal, A Mother and Daughter's Recovery From Breast Cancer, featuring photographs by her daughter, Annabel Clark, currently in its third printing from Umbrage Editions. The Importance of Being Earnest is about maintaining fictitious identities to avoid unwelcome social obligations.
