City University of New York graduates, JIMMY SMITS and CUNY Chancellor MATTHEW GOLDSTEIN will be honored at a gala to benefit BEAT (Bridging Education and Theatre), a TDF/ CUNY partnership helping to make New York City theatre, music and dance accessible to the CUNY community. The gala will be held on Thursday, December 1 at The Graduate Center, City University of New York, 365 Fifth Avenue, New York, NY @ 34th Street. Theatre Development Fund's (TDF) Costume Collection, which is one of the largest theatrical costume rental houses in the country, has moved its 75,000-piece costume collection to the landmarked Kaufman Astoria Studios (KAS) and opens for business in its new home on Monday, November 14 at 9am.

As fiscal year 2011 comes to a close, the League of Chicago Theatres looks back over a season of remarkable achievements, both artistic and financial.

Steppenwolf Theatre Company continues its 2011/12 season with Penelope by Enda Walsh, directed by ensemble member Amy Morton, playing December 1, 2011 - February 5, 2012 in Steppenwolf's Downstairs Theatre, 1650 N. Halsted St. Penelope features ensemble members Ian Barford, John Mahoney and Yasen Peyankov with Scott Jaeck and Logan Vaughn.

Steppenwolf for Young Adults launches its 2011/12 season with The Heart Is A Lonely Hunter adapted by Rebecca Gilman, based on the novel by Carson McCullers and directed by Hallie Gordon, playing October 11 - November 4, 2011 in Steppenwolf's Upstairs Theatre, 1650 N. Halsted St. The production features ensemble member Alan Wilder with Jessica Honor Carleton, Derrick C. Cooper, Walter Coppage, Ann Joseph, Loren Lazerine, Colm O'Reilly, Jay Reed, Robert Schleifer and Nick Vidal. Weekday matinees (Tuesdays through Fridays) are reserved for school groups only, with weekend (Saturday and Sunday) performances available to the public. Single tickets and tickets for school groups are currently on sale.

The award will be presented by Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Alec Baldwin in a ceremony at Alice Tully Hall in Lincoln Center on Tuesday, November 1 at 6pm. The Broadway League announced today the recipients of its sixteenth annual National Education Grants. These grants support innovative programs that enable students from coast to coast to experience touring Broadway as a form of artistic expression and as an educational tool.

During the entire month of October, performing arts organizations from across the five boroughs will be offering free tickets as a way of introducing new audiences to New York City's diverse Off Broadway, Independent Theater, Music and Dance communities.
