Despite the self-effacing vibe Paul Taylor is known for portraying, his work drips with thoughtfulness and intellect. (more...)

BWW Reviews: PAUL TAYLOR DANCE COMPANY
by Barnett Serchuk - Mar 26, 2014

As I was going to the Paul Taylor performance I saw a woman wearing a mink coat and my brain retreated to my early teenage years when all those Blackglama ads were in vogue. You remember them: 'What becomes a legend most?' Among those featured in the advertisements were Rudolf Nureyev, Margot Fonteyn, and Martha Graham, among the many icons. (more...)

BWW Reviews: PAUL TAYLOR'S 1982 'Mercuric Tidings' Trumps His 2014 Premiere
by Sondra Forsyth - Mar 24, 2014

On the evening of March 20th 2014, as part of the Diamond Anniversary celebration of the Paul Taylor Dance Company at the Koch Theater, the troupe offered a triple bill that included a recent world premiere and an enduring favorite from 1982. The first two offerings, choreographed in 2012 and 2013 respectively, earned only tepid applause from everyone in the audience including me. The closing piece, on the other hand, rightfully received a nearly thunderous ovation and I was clapping as enthusiastically as the rest of the dancegoers. I only hope that this disparity between the work that was choreographed over three decades ago and those more newly created is not an indication that Taylor, at 83, is no longer turning out the top quality dances that secured him a place in the pantheon of great American modern dance pioneers. BWW Reviews: Paul Taylor's ESPLANDE Outshines at Lincoln Center
by Frances Steiner - Mar 20, 2014

Paul Taylor is the last of the living great modern choreographers of the 20th century. He began creating dances in 1954 and has worked with some of the biggest names of the dance world, including Martha Graham, Merce Cunningham, and George Balanchine; he has collaborated with some of today's most important visual artists such as Robert Rauschenberg, Ellsworth Kelly, and Jasper Johns. Many, if not all, choreographers cite him as an inspiration for their work. Paul Taylor's repertory should be permanently placed on a syllabus for any dance enthusiast. Saturday night's performance at Lincoln Center's David Koch Theatre showed the highs and the lows of Paul Taylor Dance Company. (more...)
