BWW Review: Celebrating American Modern Dance with PAUL TAYLOR AMERICAN MODERN DANCEBWW Review: Celebrating American Modern Dance with PAUL TAYLOR AMERICAN MODERN DANCE
by Caryn Cooper - Mar 21, 2017

On the evening of March 17, 2017, the Paul Taylor American Modern Dance (PTAMD) company continued its spring season at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center. In 2014, Mr. Taylor expanded his company, then known as the Paul Taylor Dance Company to PTAMD, to create a home for great American modern dance. This is done by presenting dances of the past and present, Mr. Taylor's own repertoire, all alongside new works commissioned by a new generation of choreographers. And this evening's performance showcased that. (more...)

by Audrey Liebross - Mar 20, 2017

Prolific screenwriter and playwright Del Shores is perhaps best known for his series of plays about growing up gay in the South. In the semi-autobiographical SOUTHERN BAPTIST SISSIES, now playing at the Desert Rose Playhouse in an excellent production, he describes the clash between his identities as a devout Baptist and a gay child. BWW Review: CityRep Has An Incandescent Hit On Their Hands with MR. BURNS, A POST-ELECTRIC PLAYBWW Review: CityRep Has An Incandescent Hit On Their Hands with MR. BURNS, A POST-ELECTRIC PLAY
by Ronn Burton - Mar 2, 2017

Last weekend, CityRep opened MR. BURNS, A POST-ELECTRIC PLAY at the downtown Civic Center. A co-production with Oklahoma City University, featuring up-and-coming student artists and professional Equity actors on equal footing, the CityRep production of Anne Washburn's delightfully unconventional script is one of my favorite shows the company has produced in recent memory. CityRep has a hit on their hands. I hope the lack of familiarity with the title doesn't discourage audience attendance-this play is one of the most-produced in regional theaters around the country this season, and for good reason. The only drawback is that the play is only around for one more weekend. I applaud CityRep and OCU for introducing such thought-provoking art to the heartland, and hope you, dear reader, flock to the theater in droves to experience the magic. (more...)
