Joe's Pub Reflects on 15th Anniversary Season; Preps for 2014

In 2013 Joe's Pub at The Public launched its 15th Anniversary season and was named one of the top ten music venues in the country by Rolling Stone magazine. It was a busy year, and there are no signs of slowing down in 2014. With a new sound system, record-setting ticket sales and some of the most eclectic programming New York City has to offer, Joe's Pub continues to set the standard for showcase venues worldwide.
Soledad Barrio & Noche Flamenca to Return to Joyce Theater, 12/3-15

Returning this December, following two sold-out, acclaimed engagements in 2011 and 2012, Soledad Barrio & Noche Flamenca will take the stage of The Joyce Theater for an extended two-week season from December 3 - 15, with a program entitled Sombras Sagradas (Sacred Dreams). Tickets are $10*-$69 ($26-$44 for Joyce members) and can be arranged by calling JoyceCharge at 212-242-0800 or online at www.joyce.org. Please note: ticket prices are subject to change. The Joyce Theater is located at 175 Eighth Avenue at 19th Street.

NEFA Awards $925K for New Dance Works

With a new program of innovative and edgy repertoire, Rebeca Tomas will bring her A Palo Seco Flamenco Company back to Theatre 80 Saint Marks tonight, May 17 to 19 in a new production, 'Cinco Por Cinco.' Tomas, a fierce and feminine NY-based Flamenco artist, will direct her company of five dancers, two singers and three musicians in a show that promises to be true to her vision of upholding Flamenco's traditions while also pushing its boundaries and giving it a distinctive New York City feel.

One World Theatre, Austin's premiere music venue known presenting diverse music and cultural arts in an up close and personal setting has announced its 2013 Summer Season. Clawhammer banjo player, composer and singer ABIGAIL WASHBURN will debut POST-AMERICAN GIRL at Joe's Pub at The Public March 28 - 30 as part of NEW YORK VOICES, the popular commission series designed to help musicians make the leap from songwriting and performance to theatrical production. Washburn's new stage piece is about an American girl coming-of-age in a swiftly changing global order. Joe's Pub at The Public announces the second season of its New York Voices series, presenting new works from critically-acclaimed performers commissioned by Joe's Pub and supported in part by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. The 2013 season will include the celebrated Spanish flamenco dance company Noche Flamenca; the singer-songwriter Abigail Washburn who fuses traditional forms of Appalachian and Chinese folk music; and carnal chanteuse and fearless cabaret star Bridget Everett.

Northrop Dance and The O'Shaughnessy at St. Catherine University present Women of Substance. Inspired by Rosa, Soledad's mother, the term "Quebradas" literally translates into "women turning oneself inside out." It is also a flamenco dance term that refers to a dance move that only women perform, which requires a woman to perform with her chest off its axis.
