Casting has been announced for the new production of the Tony Award-winning smash hit musical DREAMGIRLS which plays the Curran Theatre August 24 - September 26 as part of the 2009-2010 Citibank Best of Broadway series under the direction of Carole Shorenstein Hays. Tickets go on sale Sunday, July 11, 2010.

This month's MUST-SEES include The Capital Fringe Festival and Hip-Hop Festival, pirates, a high-flying nanny, a supreme trio, a boar with a flapjack, a crazy one-man Lord of the Rings, those loveable Tony Award-winning puppets, lots of plaid, a household of singing sisters, Stew's 'strange' score, and a concert version of a Rodgers and Hart classic musical. Producer John Breglio and The National Theatre announced casting today for the national tour of DREAMGIRLS, coming to Washington, D.C., July 28 through August 8.

While it's not quite the famed Apollo Theater in New York City, 'The Dreams' are playing at Proctor & Gamble Hall at the Aronoff Center now through June 20th and they give an amazing performance. 'The Dreams' are the girl group from the 1960's who struggle to make it big and then struggle with what happens when they do make it in the Broadway musical Dreamgirls. Effie White (Moya Angela) is the powerhouse of the trio, always taking the lead. That is, until they start to gain some notoriety as backup singers for Jimmy 'Thunder' Early (Chester Gregory) and their manager, Curtis (Chaz Lamar Shepherd) decides to place a more camera and press-friendly Deena (Syesha Mercado) front and center instead. Rounding out the trio is Lorrell (Adrienne Warren), who is often the peacemaker of the group. In between songs, the story eventually winds around several interconnected relationships between the characters and some interesting clash of personalities as well.

Jim Caruso and Billy Stritch's Cast Party has officially proven to be a bi-coastally success with its West Coast premiere on Thursday, April 1st at the world famous Magic Castle's highly popular Cabaret at the Castle. Actor and performer Israel Cortez is becoming quite the YouTube sensation thanks in part to his solo remix interpretation of the powerhouse song 'It's All Over' from the film version of the musical 'Dreamgirls'. Cortez, a La Palma, California, resident, plays all the parts in the song, which is sung by Jamie Foxx, Keith Robinson, Beyonce, Anika Noni Rose and Sharon Leal as they confront Jennifer Hudson's 'Effie'.
