Representatives from 23 states flocked to the Mile High City to attend a marathon of new plays at the 8th Annual Colorado New Play Summit, presented by the Denver Center Theatre Company (DCTC) February 8 - 10, 2013. With a stunning representation of today's top American playwrights, DCTC demonstrated its commitment to new work and solidified its position as one of the nation's top tier new play festivals. This year's Summit hosted artistic directors, literary managers, and dramaturgs representing 31 theatre organizations from across the country, plus media, playwrights, directors, and members of the public, all eager to discover "the next Great American Play." The 2013 Colorado New Play Summit took place at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts, 14th and Curtis Streets, in downtown Denver, February 8 - 10, 2013.

Native Voices at the Autry continues its vital role as the country's only Equity theatre company dedicated exclusively to developing the work of Native American playwrights with the world premiere of THE BIRD HOUSE by DIANE GLANCY (Cherokee*). The play opens Friday, March 1 and closes Sunday, March 17, 2013, (previews begin February 27) at the Autry National Center's Wells Fargo Theater, Los Angeles.

Fresh, provocative and spell-binding, Horizon Theatre Company has announced its 29th season of contemporary theatre. The new lineup features an audience favorite back by popular demand, two Atlanta premieres of new American plays, and a world premiere commissioned through Horizon's popular New South Play Festival. Horizon's intimate 172-seat theatre can be found in Atlanta's funky Little Five Points district.

San Francisco Playhouse will present 'Our Voices, Our Stories' Play Reading Festival this spring.

Victory Gardens continues its 2012-13 season with the Midwest Premiere of The Whale, written by Ensemble Playwright Samuel D. Hunter and directed by Joanie Schultz. The production runs April 5 - May 5, 2013 at the Victory Gardens Biograph Theater, 2433 N. Lincoln Avenue in Lincoln Park. The Press Opening is Monday, April 15, 2013 at 7:30 p.m.

This question, posed by Shen Tei, the good-hearted, penniless and cross-dressing prostitute of Bertolt Brecht's Good Person of Szechwan, is central to the work of The Foundry Theatre. The play's concerns, and the earmarks of the Foundry's new production, make it an ideal offering from the company, which is celebrated for creating memorable theatrical events while pursuing civic inquiry and social justice. The show, starring the singular Taylor Mac as Shen Tei, is directed by Lear deBessonet and features original live music by 'indie rock vaudevillians' (SPIN) Cesar Alvarez and The Lisps.

Theatre Rhinoceros presents... A Lady and a Woman by Shirlene Holmes, starring Velina Brown* and Dawn L. Troupe*. Directed by John Fisher, the show will make its Bay Area premiere, March 7 - 24, 2013.

Mellon Foundation to fund a three-year residency for resident playwright Andrew Saito. The grant will give Saito a full time salary and health benefits at Cutting Ball for the entire three years, with options to receive additional developmental funds. The grant is Cutting Ball's largest grant to date.

The Most Deserving by Edgerton New Play Award-winner Catherine Trieschmann, The Legend of Georgia McBride by rising star Matthew Lopez, The Vast In-Between by Chicago Jeff Award-winner Laura Eason, internationally-produced Karen Zacarias' Just Like Us (based on the best-seller by Helen Thorpe), and Black Odyssey by multiple award winning poet/playwright Marcus Gardley, are confirmed for the 2013 Colorado New Play Summit, which will take place in downtown Denver February 8 - 10, 2013.

The Talking Band presents the world-premiere production of OBSKENE -- a new play comprised of messenger speeches from classical Greek Tragedy and reports from the near future created by 8 playwrights including David Greenspan, Tina Shepard, Marcus Gardley and Deb Margolin -- with an official press opening set for tonight, Nov. 8 at HERE (145 Ave. of the Americas, one block south of Spring).
