Multi-awarded Filipino film actor Christopher de Leon, via Green Wings Entertainment Network Inc., is the executive producer of 'Lorenzo,' a new rock musical, which features music--a mix of rock and soaring ballads--by Maestro Ryan Cayabyab and book and lyrics by Juan Ekis, Paul Dumol and Joem Antonio. Its Philippine premiere closed earlier today at SDA Theater, 5/F College of Saint Benilde in Malate, Manila.

9 Works Theatrical's ("You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown," "Sweet Charity") production of Marvin Hamlisch and Carol Bayer Sager's classic Broadway musical "They're Playing Our Song" (TPOS), directed by Robbie Guevara, opens this weekend at Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium, RCBC Plaza in Makati City; Blue Repertory's ("Bare," "Little Shop of Horrors") production of Duncan Sheik's dark rock musical "Spring Awakening" (SA), directed by Andrei Nikolai Pamintuan, will follow suit when SA opens at Rizal Mini Theatre, Ateneo de Manila University in Quezon City on Valentine's Day, February 14.

- 9 Works Theatrical, which produced last year's professional theater production of Clark Gesner's '60s musical comedy "You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown," is currently working on a revival production of Marvin Hamlisch and Carol Bayer Sager's late '70s hit Broadway musical "They're Playing Our Song," which pairs up for the first time TV and recording artist Nikki Gil (who plays disorganized, quirky lyricist Sonia Walsk) and veteran stage actor Lorenz Martinez (who plays accomplished composer Vernon Gersch). Tony winner Lea Salonga and Singaporean actor/director Adrian Pang played Walsk and Gersch respectively in a previous local production of "They're Playing Our Song."

Theater producer Sir Cameron Mackintosh has just confirmed with The Philippine Star entertainment editor and columnist, Ricky Lo, that plans for the highly anticipated revival of mega-musical "Miss Saigon" are underway for 2014. Lo was able to interview Mackintosh at the Tokyo premiere of "Les Miserables" movie, where the writer mentioned the recent auditions held in Manila to the British producer.

Local Disney princesses Rachelle Ann Go, who played the title role in the Asian premiere of Disney's stage musical adaptation of "The Little Mermaid," and K-La Rivera, who is currently playing the role of Princess Jasmine in the Asian premiere of Disney's stage musical adaptation of "Aladdin," both made it to the final round of auditions, mainly dance auditions, for the much-talked-about "Miss Saigon" tryouts, which began last Monday, November 19, and will end tomorrow, Thursday, November 22 at the Opera Haus, Philippine Opera Company's newly opened headquarters in Makati City.
