THE GHOSTS OF VERSAILLES' Marilyn Horne, Patti LuPone and James Conlon Set for Livestream Chat This Friday

Two iconic artists -- operatic superstar Marilyn Horne and Broadway legend Patti LuPone -- will join together for a conversation about the unlikely role they share in common: Samira in John Corigliano's 'grand opera buffa' The Ghosts of Versailles. The conversation, to be livestreamed at LAOpera.org beginning at 5:30pm on Friday, February 27, will be hosted by James Conlon, LA Opera's Richard Seaver Music Director, who has worked extensively with both artists.

Lyric Unlimited presents the world premiere of The Property, a klezmer opera by composer Wlad Marhulets and librettist Stephanie Fleischmann. It opens tonight, February 25, with five performances through Thursday, March 5. World premiere presentations of The Property are presented in partnership with the Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts in Chicago's Hyde Park neighborhood Feb. 25, 26, 27, with additional performances at the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts in suburban Skokie Mar. 4-5.

Lawrence Edelson, Artistic and General Director of Opera Saratoga, announced today that the company has received two important new grants to help support the world premiere of The Long Walk, a new opera by composer Jeremy Howard Beck and librettist Stephanie Fleischmann, based on the critically acclaimed memoir of war and homecoming by Brian Castner.

Broadway legend Patti LuPone is currently back on stage in LA Opera's The Ghosts of Versailles, by composer John Corigliano and librettist William C. Hoffman. The opera gets its long awaited west coast premiere in a new production directed by 2014 Tony Award winner Darko Tresnjak, running through March 1.

Pierre Beaumarchais' 1792 play The Guilty Mother, the last and least-known of the French playwright's trilogy of stage comedies about the adventures of Figaro, will be presented in a 'radio theater-style performance' by LA Theatre Works in partnership with LA Opera. A highlight of LA Opera's Figaro Unbound celebration, The Guilty Mother will be directed by Michael Hackett, with performances taking place at 8pm this weekend, February 13 and 14 at UCLA's James Bridges Theater (235 Charles E. STAGE TUBE: Anita Darian Dies at Age 87

Anita Darian, a soprano whose four-octave voice earned her the nickname “The Armenian Yma Sumac” and spawned an eclectic 50-year career that ranged from performances with the New York City Opera, Leonard Bernstein and the New York Philharmonic to big-band jazz concerts, co-starring roles with Barbara Cook, and hit pop recordings that included “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” is dead at 87. A longtime resident of East Atlantic Beach, L.I., she died Sunday, Feb. 1 at South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside of complications from surgery.

Following on the heels of The Ghosts of Versailles, LA Opera presents Rossini's The Barber of Seville, the midpoint of its 2015 Figaro Trilogy and a key part of its three-month Figaro Unbound exploration. LA Opera Music Director James Conlon conducts an international roster of stars including Russian baritone Rodion Pogossov, American mezzo-soprano Elizabeth DeShong, American tenor René Barbera, Italian baritone Alessandro Corbelli and Icelandic bass Kristinn Sigmundsson.
