The debate over immigration reform takes center stage in ¡Figaro! (90210), a contemporary adaptation of Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro, presented by LA Opera in its world premiere staging at the Barnsdall Gallery Theatre from this weekend, January 16 through 18.

Soprano Lisa Delan (class of 1989) will perform on the San Francisco Conservatory of Music's distinguished Alumni Recital Series on Wednesday, February 11, 2015, at 8 p.m. Ms. Delan's program will include works by American composers John Corigliano, David Garner, Gordon Getty, Jake Heggie and Luna Pearl Woolf. She will be joined by special guests Matt Haimovitz, Christopher O'Riley and Jake Heggie. The concert, held at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music's Sol Joseph Recital Hall, is dedicated to the memory of pianist Kristin Pankonin (class of 1989), alumna and former staff pianist of the Conservatory.

Tenor Russell Thomas will replace Brandon Jovanovich, who has withdrawn due to illness, in the New York Philharmonic performances of the Verdi Requiem, conducted by Music Director Alan Gilbert. The Columbus Symphony continues its Happy Hour free concert series at the Ohio Theatre on Thursday, February 12. The concert will feature guest conductor Joel Smirnoff in an approximately 90-minute performance featuring Copland's Fanfare for the Common Man, Bernstein's Fancy Free, Gershwin's Lullaby for String Orchestra, and Gould's Interplay (American Concertette) featuring guest pianist Caroline Hong. WOSU's Christopher Purdy will host, adding commentary on each of the works and interviewing the conductor throughout the evening.

Orange County—Jan. 7, 2015—Pacific Symphony invites all people of Orange County to share their voice and contribute to a new composition for “OC in Unison,” a project created to engage the community in music creation. Guided by the vision of Music Director Carl St.Clair, the Symphony has chosen Composer-in-Residence Narong Prangcharoen to write this new anthem for the county, which is scheduled to premiere on the Opening Night concerts of the 2015-16 season, with a culminating event taking place on Sunday, Oct. 4. Prangcharoen has already begun studying the county and discovering how the region has grown from an area of sprawling orange groves into a thriving cultural community of 34 different cities. He has been inspired by the range of scenery, but has been most influenced by the people he's met and the experiences they've had living here. Prangcharoen is now looking to more people to inspire the heart and spirit of the piece, and invites all residents to share their Orange County narrative.

The ASCAP Foundation Awards Ceremony was held at The Appel Room at Jazz at Lincoln Center and Broadwayworld was there. This years recipient of the Masters Award was composer John Corigliano. Mr. Corigliano has also won fiver Grammy's a Pulitzer Prize the Grawemeyer Award and an Academy Award for his many scores and compositions. A highlight of LA Opera'sFigaro Unbound celebration, The Guilty Mother will be directed by Michael Hackett, with performances taking place at 8pm on February 13 and 14 at UCLA's James Bridges Theater (235 Charles E. LA Opera's programming of three operas based on the Figaro plays—The Barber of Sevilleby Rossini, The Marriage of Figaro by Mozart and the west coast premiere of The Ghosts of Versailles by John Corigliano, all conducted by LA Opera Music Director James Conlon—is the inspiration for Figaro Unbound, a three-month citywide celebration of the revolutionary spirit.
