Signature Theatre presents THE PIANO LESSON by August Wilson and directed by Tony Award winner Ruben Santiago-Hudson. The production, which has already announced a 1-week extension, runs through December 16 and opens November 18 in The Irene Diamond Stage at The Pershing Square Signature Center (480 West 42nd Street between 9th and 10th Avenues). The first 11 o'clock number of the evening came at around 8:05, when Marc Kudisch opened Town Hall's The Best of Broadway By The Year concert by caressing Lerner and Loewe's “If Ever I Would Leave You” with his rich, dramatic baritone and superlative musical acting skills.  It was a very appropriate opening since Kudisch, a regular participant throughout the concert series' twelve-season history, very much represents what these evenings have evolved into; a look at what Broadway could be in a commercially different environment.

MODERN TERRORISM, OR THEY WHO WANT TO KILL US AND HOW WE LEARN TO LOVE THEM is offering a limited number of special post hurricane $10 student and $20 general admission tickets to the final six performance at Second Stage Theatre's Tony Kiser Theatre (305 W 43rd St). The final performances are as follows: Thursday, November 1 at 8pm, Friday, November 2 at 8pm, Saturday, November 3 at 2pm and 8pm, and Sunday, November 4 at 2pm and 7pm.

Don't tell God, but for some people pop culture not even a century old can provide the same kind of spiritual inspiration and comfort as the ancient texts and traditions of organized religion.  Just ask Adelaide, the central character of Colman Domingo's wonderfully joyous, sweet and funny adventure, Wild With Happy.  No, wait, you can't.  Because she's dead when the play starts.

Principal cast changes have been announced for the Broadway production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, the longest-running show in Broadway history. Produced by Cameron Mackintosh/Really Useful Group, Inc. and directed by Harold Prince, the musical phenomenon is in its unprecedented 25th year in New York, playing at The Majestic Theatre (247 West 44th Street).

On Wednesday night, Broadway greats gathered at Joe's Pub to sing selections from Kander and Ebb's Cabaret. Anne Hathaway, who will be appearing as Fantine in the movie musical Les Miserables, was joined by five-time Tony Award winner Audra McDonald, Eddie Redmayne, Bryce Pinkham, Broadway legend and multi-award-winner Linda Lavin, and yet another great, Harvey Fierstein, all participated in this musical evening called, Perfectly Marvelous: the Songs of Cabaret. “We should not do a show more often,” quipped Ryan Silverman as he an Jill Paice took in the appreciative applause of the Town Hall audience before even singing a note of the Broadway musical they were expected to star in this season, Rebecca.  Host Scott Siegel had just recapped the story of the show's numerous delays, fake investors, missing funds and the fact that an estimated 150 theatre professions had either turned down work or stopped seeking immediate employment because of their expectation to be working on Broadway by Christmas.

The only trouble with these 90-minute musicals that start at 7pm is that I really can't get all that enthused over the big 8:15 number.

Offering its first musical premiere since the 1996-97 season, Hartford Stage presents a tongue-in-cheek, Edwardian romp among the royals in A Gentleman's Guide to Love & Murder starring Tony-Award-Winner and Connecticut native Jefferson Mays (I Am My Own Wife) as eight different characters.

Television and movie legend William Shatner will bring his one man show SHATNER'S WORLD: WE JUST LIVE IN IT to the State Theatre in Easton on Sunday, November 11, 7 PM.

Previews began Friday, October 12 for the Playwrights Horizons' production of THE WHALE, the New York premiere of a new play by Obie Award winner Samuel D. Hunter (A Bright New Boise). Directed by Davis McCallum (February House, A Bright New Boise, the upcoming Water By the Spoonful at Second Stage), the production has an Opening Night set for Monday, November 5 at 7PM at Playwrights Horizons' Peter Jay Sharp Theater (416 West 42nd Street). Hartford Stage, under the leadership of Artistic Director Darko Tresnjak and Managing Director Michael Stotts, presents the world premiere musical comedy A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder with book by Robert L. Freedman; music by Steven Lutvak; lyrics by Robert L. Freedman and Steven Lutvak; and directed by Darko Tresnjak. A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder plays now through November 11 and features Tony Award-winner Jefferson Mays, playing eight of the more than 20 characters.
