Round House Theatre announces casting for the five mainstage shows that will comprise its 41st season. The nominees for the 2018 Helen Hayes Awards were announced on February 5, 2018. One of the country's most prestigious cultural honors, The Helen Hayes Awards recognizes and celebrates excellence in professional theatre throughout the Washington metropolitan area. The National Theatre's Helen Hayes Gallery set the scene for the announcement of nominees in 47 categories for artistic excellence, and the theatre companies eligible for the 2017 John Aniello Award for Outstanding Emerging Theatre Company. The recipient of the 2018 Helen Hayes Tribute will be announced shortly.

Ronald Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev go head-to-head in Blind Date, a new play by Rogelio Martinez directed by Goodman Theatre Artistic Director Robert Falls. Today, Falls announced his cast for the world-premiere production, which features as characters some of the figures who shaped the political landscapes of the 1980s and beyond.

Performances begin tomorrow for Blind Date, Rogelio Martinez's slyly comic, behind-the-scenes glimpse of two of the most powerful world leaders Ronald Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev directed by Goodman Theatre Artistic Director Robert Falls. Martinez, a fresh and funny talent (Backstage) who finds new twists on old topics (Variety), continues his multi-play exploration of the Cold War Era with this Goodman world premiere, which features as characters some of the figures who shaped the political landscapes of the 1980s and beyond. In an era before Twitter, Tinder and 24/7 news, Ronald Reagan (Rob Riley) and Mikhail Gorbachev (William Dick) seek to thaw the seemingly intractable tension between the United States and Soviet Russia. Despite their advisors' best efforts to keep them on track, a crafty game of one-upmanship ensues, as the world's two most powerful leaders eschew conventional protocols to discuss pop culture and old movies while Nancy Reagan (Deanna Dunagan) and Raisa Gorbachev (Mary Beth Fisher ) mirror their husbands' negotiations in a passive-aggressive tango over tea and fashion choices.

Evans, presents the Midwest Premiere of The Book of Will, written by Lauren Gunderson and directed by Jessica Thebus. The Book of Will runs November 9 December 17, 2017 at Northlight Theatre, 9501 Skokie Blvd in Skokie.

The Shakespeare Theatre Company (STC) Free For All, one of the capital's most beloved annual traditions offering free performances of a Shakespearean classic to the general public each summer, will return next month with the Company's 2016 production of William Shakespeare's Othello. Helmed by internationally acclaimed director Ron Daniels and starring screen actor Faran Tahir in the titular role, the production will run at Sidney Harman Hall (610 F St. NW) from August 15-27, offering more than 12,000 people the chance to see the play free of charge.

Today's subject, Gregory Linington, is currently living his theatre life onstage at Theater J playing Harry Hyman, the doctor with a big heart and strong attraction to one of his patients, in Arthur Miller's rarely produced Broken Glass. The production has been extended and now runs through July 16th.

Northlight Theatre, under the direction of Artistic Director BJ Jones and Executive Director Timothy J. Evans, announces casting for the full 2017-2018 season, which includes The Legend of Georgia McBride by Matthew Lopez, The Book of Will by Lauren Gunderson, Skeleton Crew by Dominique Morisseau, The Beauty Queen of Leenane by Martin McDonagh and Cry It Out by Molly Smith Metzler.

In response to enthusiastic critical and audience reaction, Theater J is extending the run of its current production of Arthur Miller's Broken Glass by one week, to July 16. 

How do we identify ourselves? What role does fear play in shaping our lives? Do we ever confuse what we see in the news with what is actually happening in our daily comings and goings? In an era when news, be it real or fake, is omnipresent, Theater J's timely, well-acted production of Broken Glass explores the most complex of issues... identify.

Ford's Theatre Society announced that it set revenue and attendance records with its 2016-2017 theatrical season, which included the musicals Come From Away and Ragtime, productions of A Christmas Carol and Edward Albee's Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? and the one-act play One Destiny. More than 153,000 patrons attended performances, and ticket sales brought in more than $6 million, making 2016-2017 the highest attended and highest grossing theatrical season in Ford's Theatre history.

From June 14-July 9, Theater J is producing Broken Glass, one of the only plays by Arthur Miller to directly incorporate Jewish characters and history.   The most recent major production of this 1994 drama was in 2011 in London, where critics gave it strong reviews.

Emmy Award winner and Golden Globe nominee Marg Helgenberger, known for her 12 seasons as Catherine Willows on CBS's CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, stars as Regina Giddens under veteran director Kyle Donnelly, who has directed more than 20 productions at Arena Stage.
