PBS's SHAKESPEARE UNCOVERED Episodes Available Online!

PBS' latest and greatest salute to the Bard -- the six-part series "Shakespeare Uncovered" -- has left the airwaves, but the critically acclaimed show and a variety of great Shakespeare-related content is available online. HD-quality streaming versions of the six "Uncovered" episodes can be found here, along with character quizzes, two colorful (and quite helpful) infographics that lay out key plot points from Hamlet, Macbeth and A Midsummer Night's Dream, as well as links to full broadcast versions of plays from the PBS archive, and lesson plans for teachers who use Shakespeare in the classroom

Bertolt Brecht's Baal is pretty much the type of play you'd expect to be written by a 20-year-old student who would eventually become known for using dramatic techniques meant to alienate the audience from any emotional connection to the characters.  Now his social commentary about a hard-drinking outcast poet womanizer and murderer has been given a 1990s spin from The New Group in playwright Jonathan Marc Sherman's Clive.

Mother of Invention, under the Artistic Direction of Gina Stahlnecker has announced that Austin Pendleton will direct it's production of LOOK HOMEWARD, ANGEL, Ketti Frings' acclaimed 1957 play based on Thomas Wolfe's first and largely autobiographical novel, March 13 - 24 at Abingdon Theatre Company's Strelsin Theatre (312 West 36th St.). The official opening will be on March 16th at 8PM.

The New Group presents the world premiere of Clive, written by Jonathan Marc Sherman and directed by and featuring Ethan Hawke in the title role. This production features Brooks Ashmanskas, Vincent D'Onofrio, Stephanie Janssen, Mahira Kakkar, Zoe Kazan, Aaron Krohn, Dana Lyn and Jonathan Marc Sherman, with Music and Sound Sculptures by GAINES. Clive plays a limited Off-Broadway engagement through March 9 at The New Group at Theatre Row (The Acorn Theatre / 410 West 42nd Street). The American Shakespeare Center is the only U.S. theatre company included in the British Broadcasting Corporation's six-part series, 'Shakespeare Uncovered.' The final installment of the series, 'Shakespeare Uncovered: The Tempest with Trevor Nunn,' features the ASC prominently through rehearsal and performance footage from the company's 2011 production of The Tempest as well as interviews with ASC Co-Founder and Artistic Director Jim Warren and actors James Keegan and Miriam Donald Burrows.

The New Group has announced that Brooks Ashmanskas, Vincent D'Onofrio and Zoe Kazan have joined the cast of Clive, up next in the company's 2012-2013 season. Written by Jonathan Marc Sherman and directed by and featuring Ethan Hawke in the title role, Clive's official Opening Night is set for tonight, February 7 at 7:00pm. This production is slated through March 9 at The New Group at Theatre Row (The Acorn Theatre / 410 West 42nd Street).

Classic Stage Company, under the leadership of Artistic Director Brian Kulick and Executive Director Greg Reiner, will present a private reading of a new musical comedy A DOCTOR IN SPITE OF HIMSELF by Sheldon Harnick, based on Molière's LE MEDECIN MALGRE LUI, today, February 1 at MTC Studios. The musical features a score by Harnick, as well as English Adaptation and Additional Dialogue. The reading will be directed by David Glenn Armstrong, with musical direction by Amanda Morton. The cast will feature Ben Davis, Beth Fowler, David Garrison, Cady Huffman, Charles Kimbrough, Jose Llana, Patrick Richwood, Robb Sapp and Elena Shaddow.

The Berlin Film Festival will run from February 7 - 17. Yesterday the final films in the official line up were announced, bringing the total to 24. Included in the latest list of films were the late River Phoenix's last film, Dark Blood, and Richard Linklater's Before Midnight.

Chesapeake Shakespeare and Maryland Public Television Announce Collaboration

Maryland Public Television (MPT) and Chesapeake Shakespeare Company (CSC) are one of ten partnership organizations selected to participate in the SHAKESPEARE UNCOVERED National Community Outreach Initiative. This program partners public media stations with Shakespeare festivals and theatre companies across the country to raise awareness of the upcoming SHAKESPEARE UNCOVERED series, foster enthusiasm for Shakespeare's work at the local level, and engage and build new audiences for public media and the performing arts in creative and innovative ways.
