Ann Hampton Callaway's new Thanksgiving week show at Feinstein's/54 Below (what has become an annual holiday appearance), Feminine Persuasion, celebrates women songwriters who excel at the craft, one of the few creative sectors where men have not held them back. Covering the waterfront, her selection includes, in part, Peggy Lee, whom she calls “the first singer/songwriter” (perhaps the first highly visible and successful one), Carolyn Lee “a secretary who didn't know how to take dictation,” “optimistic” Dorothy Fields--the first woman to win an Oscar for a song--and baby boomers Carole King and Joni Mitchell, and current pop star, Adele. “These women were/are trailblazers who broke through with their own voices.”

FirstWorks brings an evening of swinging elegance and New York City sophistication to kick off their 2015-16 Artistic Icons Series. Big Band Holidays concerts, a seasonal tradition among jazz lovers and families, showcases 15 of the most electrifying jazz soloists, ensemble players, and arrangers in the country. Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, America's preeminent large jazz ensemble, is led by Wynton Marsalis, hailed as the most outstanding jazz musician of his generation, brings its Big Band Holidays program to Rhode Island for the first time on Friday, December 4, 7:30PM at The Vets in downtown Providence at 1 Ave of the Arts, Providence, RI 02903. Doors will open at 6:30PM for JumpStart festivities in the venue lobbies. Tickets are on sale now at 401-421-ARTS (2787) and at first-works.org.

Harrisburg native jazz pianist Steve Rudolph will perform with exceptional veteran jazz musicians, vocalist Dred "Perky" Scott and bassist Hassan J.J. Shakur, in a program of jazz interpretations of Christmas favorites on December 4, 2015, at 7:30 p.m. at the Ware Center. Favorites will include "Let It Snow," Mel Torme's "Christmas Song," "Little Drummer Boy," "My Favorite Things," "Silent Night," and many more. All tickets include complimentary beverage service which begins at 7:00 PM with the concert beginning at 7:30 PM. The Ware Center is located at 42 N. Prince Street, Lancaster.

The exhibition Jazz, Jews, and African Americans: Cultural Intersections in Newark and Beyond, co-produced by New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC), Institute of Jazz Studies at Rutgers-Newark, Jewish Museum of New Jersey at Congregation Ahavas Sholom, and WBGO Jazz 88.3FM, will present a panel discussion regarding Jazz, Jews, and African Americans, a FREE exhibit.
