The Museum of Modern Art presents William Kentridge: Five Themes, a comprehensive survey of the artist's career, featuring more than 100 works in a range of mediums-animated films, drawings, prints, theater models, and books-on view from February 24 to May 17, 2010.

'The Past is Still Ahead,' a five-character play about Marina Tsvetaeva, Soviet Russia's most famous poet, debuted in the Cherry Lane Theater, Manhattan in December 2007. It's returning to New York November 27 for one performance (in Russian this time) at The Millennium Theatre, 10-29 Brigton Beach Ave, Brooklyn.

The Metropolitan Opera has reason to celebrate; $2.5 million worth of tickets were sold on Sunday, the first day of sales, through its box office, telephone call center and Web site, up from $2 million on the first day of sales last year, according to the Associated press.

David Zinman will conduct the New York Philharmonic in programs May 13?16, 2009, replacing Esa-Pekka Salonen, who has withdrawn due to back trouble. Mr. Zinman will lead the Rush Hour Concert on Wednesday, May 13, at 6:45 p.m., which will now comprise Mussorgsky?s Night on Bald Mountain and Shostakovich?s Violin Concerto No. 1, with Christian Tetzlaff as soloist. On Thursday, May 14, at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, May 16, at 8:00 p.m., he will conduct the Mussorgsky and Shostakovich works, concluding with the previously announced Sibelius Symphony No. 5. On Friday, May 15, at 8:00 p.m., the stories behind the Sibelius symphony will be explored during a multimedia Inside the Music program, narrated by Gerard McBurney, followed by a complete performance of the work conducted by Mr. Zinman.

Eight new productions, four of which are company premieres, will highlight the Metropolitan Opera's 2009-10 season. General Manager Peter Gelb and Music Director James Levine jointly announced plans that include: the Met premieres of Rossini's Armida, Verdi's Attila, Jan?ček's From the House of the Dead, and Shostakovich's The Nose; new productions of Bizet's Carmen, Offenbach's Les Contes d'Hoffmann, Thomas's Hamlet, and Puccini's Tosca; and 18 revivals from the company's repertory. The season is the first to be entirely planned under Gelb's leadership, in collaboration with Levine (the past three seasons were planned before Gelb became General Manager in 2006-07 but included some productions, repertoire, and casting changes made by Gelb).

It is the third subscription program this season for the New York Festival of Song, whose 2008 CD Spanish Love Songs, featuring Lorraine Hunt Lieberson, Joseph Kaiser, Steven Blier and Michael Barrett (Bridge Records) was named one of the 'Best Of the Year' by Opera News. The program features songs in many languages celebrating the culturally diverse Jewish communities that flourished as the tribes of Israel spread out across the globe: Sephardic melodies arranged by Roberto Sierra; Second Avenue specialties by Irving Berlin and Abraham Ellstein; art songs by Ravel and Mahler; plus music by Gershwin, Bernstein, and Harold Rome.

Vocalist Ute Lemper performed Kurt Weill's Seven Deadly Sins on Wednesday, October 1, and Thursday, October 2, in Toronto Roy Thomson Hall with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. And will perform it at Carnegie Hall tonight Saturday, October 4, 2008.

On Sunday, November 9, the 70th anniversary of Kristallnacht, and 75 years since Adolf Hitler's rise to power, the Museum of Jewish Heritage-A Living Memorial to the Holocaust and The Royal Conservatory of Music, Canada, will launch 'Music in Exile-Emigré Composers of the 1930s,' a five-day series of concerts, talks, and a music-theater piece celebrating the music of Jewish composers forced to flee the Third Reich and German composers who resisted the Nazi regime.

In anticipation of the beginning of Gerard Mortier's tenure as General Manager and Artistic Director in 2009-10, New York City Opera will present Looking Forward, a celebration of twentieth-century music, as part of a unique series of concerts and events planned for 2008-09.

Media City Ballet, Natasha Middleton, Artistic Director, will present 'An Evening of Khachaturian: The Composer and His Ballets,' featuring Principal Dancers, Arsen Serobian, Gabrielle Palmatier, Amara Baptist, Edgar Nikolyan, Felicia Guzman, Ellen Rosa and Stephen Nelson, along with Soloists and Corps Dancers from Media City Ballet. Jenkyns Pelaez will appear as a Guest Artist.
