Reba McEntire Says MOLLY BROWN on Broadway 'Very Appealing'

Talking to AOL's 'the Boot' before performing at the CMA Music Fest, Reba McEntire chatted about the recent reading of 'The Unsinkable Molly Brown' for which she has been reportedly courted.
The site reports that 'Reba has been to New York City for a reading of the new script and hear some of the new music written for the proposed musical. 'It's very appealing to me,' she admits. 'The production is a long way from being ready so we'll have to wait and see what happens when it is finished.'

Last night, June 7, Matthew Broderick served as the special guest performer in the famed Celebrity Autobiography at the Triad Theatre. The 2009 Drama Desk Award winner and 2010 Bistro Award winner Celebrity Autobiography: In Their Own Words also featured Mario Cantone, Dick Cavett, Jackie Hoffman, Kristen Johnston, Eugene Pack, Dayle Reyfel, Sherri Shepherd, and Alan Zweibel. BroadwayWorld was on hand to capture the event.

Last night, June 3, MCC Theater kicked-off it's three day presentation of readings from Playwright-in-Residence Neil LaBute's FILTHY TALK FOR TROUBLED TIMES: SCENES OF INTOLERANCE. The company features Craig Bierko, Alice Eve, Johnny Galecki, Josh Hamilton, Justin Long, and Julia Stiles, who will take on a variety of plum LaBute roles in this series of 'shorts.' The readings continue tonight, June 4 and Saturday, June 5 at 7:00 p.m. at the Lucille Lortel Theatre. Proceeds will benefit MCC Theater's Playwrights' Coalition program, free PlayLab reading series, and literary development activities. Whatsonstage.com is suggesting that Carrie Fisher's Wishful Drinking may get West End Treatment as year as later this year. If true, this would be the second big announcement surrounding the show, which is being filmed at the South Orange Performing Arts Center on June 25th for an HBO documentary feature, BroadwayWorld learned today.

As BroadwayWorld previously reported, Carrie Fisher will perform her Wishful Drinking at the South Orange Performing Arts Center (SOPAC) June 25 & 26. Today, BroadwayWorld has learned that the June 25 performance will be filmed live for television as a feature-length documentary by HBO and World of Wonder Productions. The special will combine elements of her one-woman stage performance, taped before the live audience at SOPAC, with archival footage and interviews with friends and family.

Michael Riedel is reporting in today's The New York Post that Craig Bierko and Sutton Foster starred in a reading presentation of THE UNSINKABLE MOLLY BROWN for Reba McEntire who is considering taking on the role on Broadway next season. The reading was directed by Kathleen Marshall.
