Once upon a time there was a girl in Idaho who loved to play both her cello, and basketball. Sadly, games on the courts clashed with orchestra concerts, and eventually she was forced to choose between the two. The instrument won. She quit the high school team and marched into the future. She still has her cello, her voice, and now Erin and Her Cellois putting out her second album, Petits Bisous (released July 31st, 2014). In celebration of one year since the release of her debut CD entitled 'Except Sometimes' on Concord Records, Molly Ringwald who launched her CD release at Rockwell last year and has since performed over 150 concerts in Australia, New Zealand, Canada and widely across the United States in major Concert Halls, Performing Arts Centers and Jazz Festivals. Back by popular demand Ringwald will perform live in Hollywood for three Todays to include June 17th; July 1st; and July 15th at Rockwell Table & Stage.

Jazz Vocalist/storyteller Shoshana Bush will appear at The Cornelia Street Cafe, on Friday June 27th at 6pm, singing the adventurous mix of jazz and American Songbook standards and not so standards for which she's popular on both coasts. Shoshana will be accompanied by Isamu McGregor on piano and Brian Holtz on Bass. Call 212.989.9319. It is her first appearance at this legendary Greenwich Village venue. She has appeared previously at Birdland and Blue Note, where she opened for Jane Monheit as a participant in the Emerging Artist Series in 2013.

The Cabaret's 2014 Summer/Fall season kicks off July 11th with star of Broadway, Glee and 30 Rock, Cheyenne Jackson in his acclaimed show, Cheyenne Jackson's Cocktail Hour: Music of the Mad Men Era.

Having written a plethora of words about Marissa Mulder over the past couple of years, I had planned on relegating a review of her mid-November, two-show run at the Cafe Carlyle to a relatively short critique in my seasonal compilation column (due to post a day or two or three before Santa arrives, for those keeping score at home). But once I got started I went way over my self-imposed word count for such things and decided it should be broken out into this stand-alone review. Speaking of 'breakout,' although the first known use of the phrase 'breakout year' came 35 years ago, it has become the standard expression in sports or entertainment when referring to someone who has become a sudden or smashing success, especially in comparison to past efforts. If anyone in the world of New York cabaret could be said to have had a 'breakout year' in 2013, it would have to be Marissa Mulder. And this angelic young woman-in voice, looks, and personality-hasn't even hit 30 yet.

Tonight, November 20th, the Blue Note Emerging Artist Series presents Shoshana Bush. The series is designed to give young up and coming musicians the opportunity to perform at the renowned Jazz venue as an opening act for jazz legends. Shoshana Bush performs one show from 6:30 - 7:30pm as an opening act for Jane Monheit. Attending Bush's performance will provide access to Jane Monheit's 8:00PM set at no additional cost. Accompanying Bush are Isamu McGregor (piano) and Brian Holtz (bass).
