Last week, Matilda the Musical - that soaring celebration of storytelling - marked its fifth year in the West End. Appropriately enough, the show begins with a birthday party in the marvellously caustic "Miracle" (over 41,000 balloons have been used since the show opened at the Cambridge Theatre), and the audience was invited to join the party, treated to birthday cupcakes in the interval. No word on whether Bruce Bogtrotter made a play for them first…

Tickets for the new booking period, which includes performances at the Cambridge theatre between 30 May and 15 October 2017, will go on sale on the centenary of Roald Dahl's birth, 13 September.

Following the news that Broadway's Once will be closing, the West End production announced it will close on March 21, 2015. Irish pop superstar Ronan Keating will be joining the London production November 17 and will remain for the rest of the musical's run.

Last night (17 March 20134) the six-time Olivier award nominated musical Once celebrated its first birthday in the West End, joining forces with the charity Oxfam specifically fundraising for their Mother Appeal. Also celebrating St Patrick's Day, the production welcomed their new cast led by Arthur Darvill, who joins the London production having played the role on Broadway. Today, Friday 14 June 2013, the Company of the eight time Tony award-winning Once made history as the first West End musical cast to busk on the London Underground. To celebrate the tenth anniversary of the licensed busking scheme on the Tube, the cast of Once spent two hours in Leicester Square Tube station performing songs from the show alongside some of the station's regular buskers.
