Welsh National Opera Announces Spring Season


Welsh National Opera presents a feast of Italian operas from three of the greatest composers for its Spring season in Bristol. The season, entitled Rabble Rousers, will feature a new production of Verdi's La forza del destino alongside revivals of Puccini's Tosca and Mozart's Don Giovanni.

Boston's Lyric Opera Closes 40th Season With THE MARRIAGE OF FIGARO, 4/28-5/7


Boston Lyric Opera's (BLO) production of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's classic The Marriage of Figaro, opens April 28 for a five-performance run through May 7 at the John Hancock Hall at the Back Bay Events Center. Reuniting the artistic team that helmed BLO's acclaimed 2016 La Bohème (Rosetta Cucchi directing, BLO Artistic Advisor John Conklin designing, and David Angusconducting) the production recounts the antics and schemes of Count Almaviva as he attempts to upend Figaro's wedding day.  Cucchi and Conklin took inspiration for this new production from the style and feel of the romantic Billy Wilder 1954 comedy “Sabrina” starring Audrey Hepburn; it takes place in an imagined glamorous villa located in a prototypical European city.

2016-17 Chicago Philharmonic Season Opens with Legendary Lovers, Features Harp Duo in Foyer


The Chicago Philharmonic's 2016-17 season, Love, begins with a concert exploring 'Legendary Lovers' as depicted in music. Couples including Romeo & Juliet, Ruslan & Ludmila, and Tristan & Isolde all feature. Emily Birsan and John Irvin, Ryan Opera Center alumni recently heard at the Lyric Opera, sing duets by Verdi, Bernstein, and Gounod, and the orchestra performs symphonic works by Ravel, Wagner, Glinka, and Diamond. The Belle Harmonie harp duo, featuring Krista Hagglund and Anna Hirons of the Midwest Young Artists Conservatory, will perform in the foyer before the concert.

Chicago Philharmonic Announces 2016-17 Season


The Chicago Philharmonic announces its 2016-17 season: Love. Throughout five concerts, the season explores orchestral favorites and lesser known offerings representing varying expressions of love. Guest performers include conductor Gerhardt Zimmermann, Visceral Dance Chicago, and a range of renowned vocalists and instrumental soloists. Scott Speck leads the orchestra in his fourth season as artistic director.
