THE 1940's RADIO HOUR

Featuring Music from the 1940's

Directed by Joe Lauderdale

The preparations before and during the live radio broadcast of The Mutual Manhattan Variety Cavalcade on December 21, 1942 evoke a different time and spirit of a bygone era. Music of the period such as Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, I'll Be Seeing You, How About You and Strike Up The Band are featured.

NON-SINGING MALE ROLES AVAILABLE

SOME ROLES MAY BE COMBINED OR CUT & SOME ACTORS MAY BE PRE-CAST, THOUGH ALL ROLES ARE OPEN AT THIS TIME.

Around October 26 typically on Weekday Evenings at 7:00 and Saturdays 10:00-5:00.

Clifton Feddington - 40s-50s, Baritone,general manager and announcer of radio station, a bit hysterical

Ann Collier - 30s-40s, Alto, the "old standard" singer of the studio and a secretary for her day job

Johnny Cantone - 40s, Baritone ex-boxer with a voice like velvet and drinks too much

Ginger Brooks - 20s-30s, Alto, bubble-headed waitress turned singer,

Geneva Lee Browne - 30s40s, Mezzo, African-American southern belle who sings with Swing bands

Neal Tilden - 30s-40s, Baritone, cab driver by day and singer/dancer/choreographer by night

B.J. Gibson 20s-30s, Baritone, squeaky clean student at Yale

Connie Miller - 20s, Mezzo, bobbysoxer from Ogden, Utah who runs an elevator during the day

Pops Bailey - 50s-60s, Non-Singing, crotchety stage door keeper and gambler

Lou Cohn - 50s-60s, Non-Singing, sound effects man who tries to impress the girls

Wally Ferguson - 20s, Singing or Non-Singing, hopeful for a singing career, drugstore delivery boy

Biff Baker - 20s-30s, Singing or Non-Singing, musician, joining the Army after the concert

Stanley - 20s-30s, Non-Singing, lugs cables around and works in the control booth

WHAT TO DO FOR THE AUDITION

1. Prepare 24-36 bars of a 1940's or Broadway song showing range. Sheet music in the correct key only. Nothing else accepted. For Non-Singing Roles prepare a 2 minute comic monologue.
2. Provide photo and resume if available.
3. Be prepared to list current conflicts occurring during the rehearsal period,
