TEMPEST - The Red Door Theatre Company

Tempest is a unique story of jealousy, love, & forgiveness set within the visually bold world of Native American myth & magic while drawing heavily from Shakespeare’s tale of skillful illusion.

When Prospera, Daughter of Light, stole the Eternal Book & hid it on Earth she accidentally killed Sycorax, the goddess of creation & left orphaned Caliban & Miranda, the gods of imagination & meaning. Join the Shake’paw tribe as they re-enact Earth’s creation tale wherein Prospera must make right her wrongs by returning the Eternal Book to the god Sebas’t Enoch.

1. All actors should come prepared to do a cold reading from the script.

2. There might be a movement section so come prepared in case.

3. Those auditioning for title roles should come prepared to read some actual Shakespeare.

Storyteller

(m or f, 12+) – the great speaker – this character has about 70% of the dialogue in this show

Prospera

(f, 11+) – eldest daughter of the Sky King – steals the Eternal Book & kills Sycorax

Antona

(f, 9+) – middle daughter of the Sky King – plots to kill her niece

Ferdina

(f, 8+) – third daughter of the Sky King – plots to kill her niece

Sycorax

(f, 18+) – goddess of creation – granddaughter of the Sky King – mother to Caliban & Miranda

Caliban

(m, 10+) – son of Sycorax – the god of meaning – twin brother of Miranda

Miranda

(f, 10+) – daughter of Sycorax – the goddess of imagination – twin sister of Caliban

Ariel

(f, 9+) – an airy spirit that was formed after the destruction of Sycorax – helps Prospera return to the heavens – steals the Eternal Book

Hephaestiel

(m, 9+) – a fire spirit that was formed after the destruction of Sycorax – helps Prospera raise Caliban

Demetiel

(f, 9+) - a tree spirit created after Sycorax’s destruction – helps Ariel steal the Eternal Book

Neptiel

(m or f, 9+) – a water spirit created after Sycorax was killed – helps Prospera raise Miranda

(m or f, 8+) - Characters have minimal dialogue, but are in the entire show.
