The Cleveland Orchestra Choruses today announced that auditions for the 2015-16 season will take place this spring. The Cleveland Orchestra embodies a long-standing commitment to choral music in which community members of all ages may have the opportunity to participate. Auditions for the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus and Blossom Festival Chorus will be held June 2, 3, and 4. All auditions are scheduled by appointment only and can be arranged by visiting The Cleveland Orchestra’s website at
http://www.clevelandorchestra.com/about/auditions-and-careers/chorus-auditions/

The Children’s Choruses are open to students in grades 5-9. Auditions will be held on June 1, 6, and 13. The Children’s Chorus, formed in 1967, provides musical training in vocal production and choral performance skills. Performance highlights for the Cleveland Orchestra Children’s Chorus (Ann Usher, director) will include Mahler’s Symphony No. 3 and Christmas concerts with The Cleveland Orchestra and Chorus at Severance Hall.

The Children’s Preparatory Chorus (Suzanne Walter, director) performs two concerts each season. Members are provided with initial choral experiences to which younger singers may not have been exposed. By developing musical skills and performing in public, the children acquire poise, increase self esteem, and establish a solid foundation in techniques.

The Children’s Choruses rehearse on Monday nights. Their season begins in September and runs through May.

Students in grades 9-12 are welcome to audition for the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Chorus (Lisa Wong, director) on May 23, 30, or June 14. Created in 1991, the Youth Chorus helps raise awareness of choral music-making in the schools of Northeastern Ohio and encourages students to continue their choral activities through college and into adulthood. The Youth Chorus regularly collaborates with outstanding musical ensembles, and their 2015-16 season will include concerts with The Cleveland Orchestra and Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra.

The Cleveland Orchestra Chorus (Robert Porco, director) is one of the few professionally trained, all-volunteer choruses sponsored by a major American orchestra. Coming from nearly 50 Northeast Ohio communities, members of the COC perform with the Orchestra in subscription and Christmas concerts at Severance Hall. Additionally, the Chorus has appeared with the Orchestra on tour (both domestic and abroad), on television, and in numerous recordings, four of which have won Grammy Awards. The coming season for the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus will include performances of Mahler’s Symphony No. 3, Verdi’s Sacred Pieces, Handel’s Messiah, Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy, Dvo?ák’s Stabat Mater, and Christmas Concerts at Severance Hall with The Cleveland Orchestra.

The Blossom Festival Chorus (Robert Porco, director) includes many members of the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus and other Northeast Ohio choral groups. It has established itself as a permanent and beloved annual part of the summer Blossom Music Festival and has sung in well over 100 concerts since its 1968 debut. This summer, the Blossom Festival Chorus will perform at the Festival’s Opening Night (July 11) with Franz Welser-Möst conducting Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9.
