Making his Asia debut, the young French cellist Edgar Moreau performs the tremendously difficult First Cello concerto of Saint-Saëns along with Fauré's beautiful Élégie. Alexander Borodin was one of the "Mighty Five" of latenineteenth- century Russian music, the group whose avowed intent was to stamp their music with a distinctly Russian flavor in place of the European style that prevailed at the time. This "Russian-ness" is heard to great effect in the spectacular Polovtsian Dances and in the Second Symphony.
