Making her Malaysia debut, the young Mexican conductor Alondra de la Parra, heralded as one of the most compelling conductors of her generation, leads the MPO in folk- and dance-inspired music from Argentina (Ginastera), Portugal (Santos) and Mexico (Márquez), all designed to get your body swaying and your feet moving. The first half of this program presents two of the best-known masterpieces in the repertoire, Beethoven's mighty Leonore Overture No.3 and Mendelssohn's supremely elegant Violin Concerto.
