Breakdown

Drawn from dozens of interviews conducted around the world, Trans Scripts uses the real words of women to shed light on the rich and diverse experiences within the transgender community.

Especially interested in transgender actors. Previous acting experience a plus, but not necessary.

SEEKING:

Josephine
(50’s) White Australian Trans Female. Lived as a hyper-masculine man for 50 years. Intelligent, emotionally fragile, self-effacing, nervous, depressed, warm. Her dream is to become a “normal girl and disappear into society. Her physicality and her speech belie her past. She does not feel entitled to take up space, or even the air in the room. Often wants to disappear.

Luna
(Mid-Late 20’s) African American/Latina Trans Female. Orphaned at 9, she was raised in group homes. She was unsupervised as a teen and transitioned early. The spiritual daughter of trans activist Sylvia Rivera. Warm, funny and a survivor, she is an expert “code-switcher,” Using an extensive vocabulary one minute and acting “street” the next.

Sandra
(60’s) White Trans Female. A former garage mechanic with the soul of a poet, she underwent an expensive, well- supervised transition at 40. Her soothing (artificial) dialect conceals her former Staten Island accent. Sometimes perceived as uptight. She is compassionate, forgiving, and analytical. She likes to be clear, often leading her to speak in parenthetical statements.

Zakia
(Mid-Late 30’s) African American Trans Female. Began transition at 21. Social Worker by day and Beauty Pageant Contestant/Drag Performer by night. Intelligent, glamorous, frank, funny, deeply religious and principled. Her grammar & choice of words sometimes belie her intelligence. She is a thoughtful, accomplished woman who stands up for herself. She is confident and makes no attempt to sound ultra-feminine.

Tatiana
(40’s) White Trans Female. Transitioned in her 20’s. A performer, she is naturally charming. She is simultaneously arch and endearing, like Julie Newmar as Catwoman. Funny, smart, ribald, and frank, she is skeptical of the political stance of younger trans women. She uses her wit to diffuse conflict, but it is always clear what she really thinks.

Dr. Violet
(Early 70’s) White Trans Female. Raised in the UK, she has lived in Australia for 30 years. Transitioned at 68. She is a successful gynecologist working with cis and transgender patients. Some would consider her butch. While compassionate, she is unsentimental. She has a deep, resonant voice, a hearty, robust laugh and a wonderful sense of humor (which includes laughing at her own jokes). She knows exactly who she is.

Eden
(Early 40’s) White Intersex British Female. Assigned male at birth, but her history was concealed from her by her parents. An intelligent, emotional, mercurial, angry, funny, substance abuser and lesbian. She is extremely androgynous. She often speaks in lists.
