SEEKING

Equity actors for roles in THT Rep (The Hanover Theatre Repertory) 2023-24 Season (See breakdown).

Actors from out-of-town are encouraged to audition.

PREPARATION

Please prepare a Shakespearean monologue not to exceed 60 seconds. Those interested in the role of Feste, please also prepare 16 bars

of your choice to be sung a cappella or with your own instrument (e.g. a guitar). Also, please bring two copies of your headshot and resume, stapled together.

All rehearsals and performances will be held on the campus of The Hanover Theatre and Conservatory for the Performing Arts in downtown Worcester, MA, where validated garage parking is available to all creative team members.

An Equity Monitor will not be provided. The producer will run all aspects of this audition.

THE GLASS MENAGERIE

SYNOPSIS: A family drama of great tenderness, charm, and beauty, The Glass Menagerie is an icon of the American theater. The story follows Amanda Wingfield, a remnant of Southern gentility now living in a dingy apartment with her son, Tom, and her daughter, Laura. The father has deserted them, leaving Tom to support his mother and sister with a shoe-factory job he finds unbearable. When Amanda convinces Tom to bring home from his workplace a “gentleman caller” for Laura, the illusions that Tom, Amanda and Laura have each created to make life bearable shatters.

In this production, two actors will share the role of Tom.

SYNOPSIS: “Let me imagine, since facts are so hard to come by, what would have happened had Shakespeare had a wonderfully gifted sister, called Judith, let us say.“

In this fast-paced solo show, Judith dresses in drag and heads to London to save her brother’s reputation. Finding herself in a patriarchal, politically charged and deeply divided nation, she pursues work as a poet, discovering the pleasures and pitfalls of passing as the bard himself. Gallivanting in and out of character, Judith is a solo show that questions self-worth, ambition, and queer identity.

Presented in partnership with Urbanite Theatre in Sarasota, Florida.

SYNOPSIS: In this romantic comedy, mistaken identity, musical interludes, and mischief abound. The story centers on twins Viola and Sebastian, who are separated in a shipwreck. Stranded, Viola dresses as a man to protect herself, only to fall in love with the Duke Orsino. The Duke, in turn, is in love with Countess Olivia. Upon meeting, however, the Countess falls in love with Viola, mistaking her for a man! Hijinks ensue until identities are revealed, the love triangle is untangled, and the twins are reunited.

MARIA. 30s–50s. Female presenting. Any ethnicity. Olivia’s waiting gentlewoman. Smart, mischievous, sex-positive, sassy, very responsible but loves a good time.

FESTE. 20s–50s. Any gender. Any ethnicity. Sings well. A “professional fool” – witty, smart, verbally and physically dexterous. Mercurial. Someone familiar with being a chameleon in plays such as Baskerville, The 39 Steps a plus.

FABIAN. 20s–30s. Any gender. Any ethnicity. A gardener in Olivia’s household who despises Malvolio and wants to take them down a peg. Fun-loving and not the sharpest tool in the shed.

MALVOLIO. 30s–50s. Any gender. Any ethnicity. Head of staff in Olivia’s household who is secretly in love with her. Begins the play officious and brusque, ends the play vulnerable and heartbroken.

SIR TOBY BELCH. 40s–Early 60s. Male presenting. Any ethnicity. Olivia’s rich uncle, full of vitality. Dionysian. Intoxicated and intoxicating most of the time. A one-man party.

SIR ANDREW AGUECHEECK. 20s–40s. Male presenting. Any ethnicity. Wealthy, adores Sir Toby and pines for Olivia. Earnest, gullible, full of heart.

ORSINO. 20s–Early 30s. Male presenting. Any ethnicity. Dashing Count of Illyria. Begins the play spoiled and pampered, thinking he knows everything about women and life. Falls hard for Viola in disguise, reveals deep vulnerability.

SEBASTIAN. 30s. Male presenting. Any ethnicity. Viola’s twin brother. Open hearted, passionate. Falls hard and fast for Olivia.

ANTONIO. 30s–40s. Male presenting. Any ethnicity. Pirate who rescued Sebastian from a shipwreck. Tough exterior, inwardly loving and a committed friend. Fight experience a plus.

VALENTINE. 20s–30s. Any gender. Any ethnicity. Experienced and savvy personal assistant to Count Orsino.
