THE CRUCIBLE
By Arthur Miller
All-Female Staged Reading Directed by Livy Scanlon
First Rehearsal: Either March 14th or March 21st, 2023, pending Equity approval
Staged Reading: Sunday, March 26th

Widely considered one of the greatest American plays ever written, The Crucible dramatizes the Salem witch trials of the late 1600s. Miller wrote the piece in response to the McCarthy-era communist “witch hunt” that gripped the country in the 1950s.

In our current time, THT Rep Artistic Director Livy Scanlon is curious to see how the play’s themes of misogyny and persecution against women resonate with an all-female-presenting cast playing both the womens’ and mens’ roles. A one-to-two-week rehearsal process will culminate with a public staged reading and audience dialogue.
