THREE SISTERS OF WEEHAWKEN
A World Premiere by Deborah Zoe Laufer
directed by Deborah Zoe Laufer
First Rehearsal: 9/27/15, Preview 10/20, Show runs 10/21-11/6

The following roles have been cast. Actors will be considered as a possible replacement or understudy for:

OLGA
Role CAST. Female. The oldest Prozorov sister. The hard working spinster. She’s 29 at the top of the play – ages to her 80’s.

MASHA
Role CAST. Female. The middle sister. Angry. A tormented artist. 22 at the top of the play, she ages to her 80’s

IRINA
Role CAST. Female. The youngest sister. Naïve and hopeful. 21 at the top of the play – ages to her 80’s.

NATASHA
Role CAST. Female. A bit younger than Irina. Their sister-in-law. Somehow desperate for their love and approval.

THIS RANDOM WORLD

seeking:

SCOTTIE WARD
Female: 70’s. A strong and demanding older woman who has limited mobility. Scottie is set in her ways and determined to keep her children from interfering in her life – or feeling responsible for her well-being.

TIM WARD
Male: late 20’s-early 30’s Scottie’s son. A young man with very little direction in life. He has failed at relationships and any sort of real career.

BETH WARD
Female: late 30’s – early 40’s. Scottie’s daughter and Tim’s sister. She plans everything down to the last detail and does not deal well with unexpected changes to her plans.

BERNADETTE
Female: 30’s, Scottie’s caretaker. She has been with Scottie for some time and has developed a sincere affinity for Scottie, despite her demanding ways. She has recently lost her mother and is dealing fairly well with the loss, but worries for her younger sister.

RHONDA
Female: 20’s Bernadette’s sister. Committed to the supernatural and prone to great leaps of faith. She harbors resentment towards her sister over the way in which their deceased mother’s affairs were settled.

A MAN
Male: 60’s. An irritated man dealing with mistakes in regard to his final wishes and funeral.

CLAIRE
Role CAST. Female: late 20’s. A confused and depressed young woman struggling with a break-up, the death of an old friend, and questions about her level of satisfaction with her own life.

GARY
Role CAST. Male: 30’s Claire’s ex-boyfriend. Looking for meaning in his life through travel or possible connection.

DESTIN I
Male, 20’s, African-American, First born son of MOTHER. He is nearly a man and looking for how to make his way in the world.

DESTIN II
Male, mid-to-late teens, mixed-race or African American Younger brother to DESTIN I. Not fully-informed and subject to the naivety of youth.

U-NEEK
Female, late teens, mixed-race or African American Sister to Destin I & Destin II. Will-full. Expressive. Passionate. U-neek is unable to speak, but communicates fully through action and expression.

SERGEANT
Male, 40’s-60’s Authoritative. Dutiful. Humane. Also plays VENDOR – a man involved in unloading stolen goods at a discount rate & STREET DUDE – a possible drug-addict looking for cigarettes and money

OFFICER FLANK
Male or Female, 20’s-early 30’s Subordinate. Resentful. A zealot. Confuses justice with force. Also plays OPPORTUNITY SMITH – a slick business professional concerned with the profits of gentrification.

DONTAVIUS
Male, 20’s, African-American. Trouble. A story-teller who is well-versed in the ways of the streets. Enthralled by U-NEEK.

MOTHER
Role CAST. Female, 40’s-60’s, African-American Scrappy. Tenacious. Clever. Looking for a better life for herself and her family. Willing to bend, break, or ignore the rules to get it.
