PREPARATION

Prepare a brief song from traditional musical theatre repertoire showing your range. Bring picture, resume and sheet music in your own key. Accompanist provided. No recorded music or a capella. No pop or rock. You may sing from the score. Have a second piece available upon request.

Equity contracts anticipated from among the following roles; Harold Hill, Marion Paroo, Mrs. Paroo, Mayor Shinn, Eulalie Shinn, or the Male Quartet.There are three AEA contracts available.

HAROLD HILL - (Baritone, A Flat to High F) 30’s to early 40’s. Our hero and traveling con man. Looking to take advantage of a swindle and make a quick buck. Eventually a man who’s heart gets caught up in the town, the girl and the people he is swindling.

MARION PAROO - (Soprano, Low G to High A) Plays late 20’s. Beautiful and distant local librarian and piano teacher. An outsider in a town of gossips. And a secret romantic at heart.

MRS PAROO - (Mezzo Soprano A Flat to E Flat) Cheerful. Looking 40’s. Irish widow and Mom to Marion and Winthrop. Practical, direct with a loving heart.

WINTHROP PAROO - (Alto, C – E Flat) 9 year old boy, set and sullen. Has lisp speech impediment. Initially shy, but overcomes it and comes out of his shell because of Hill. Dances a soft shoe.

AMARYLLIS - (Alto, C to E) Small fry, freckle-faced, precocious 8 year old girl. Teases Winthrop though she secretly cares for him.

MARCELLUS WASHBURN - (Tenor, G to High A) 30’s. Ex con man now trying to live clean. Can be roundish. Once was sidekick to Hill. Good comic ability.

MAYOR SHINN - Late 40’s to 50’s. No nonsense, blustering, self important, easily distracted o?cious leader of the town.

EULALIE MACECKNIE SHINN - (Alto, D to D) Mayor’s wife. 50’s and gushy. Full of herself and her status in the town.

ZANEETA SHINN - (Mezzo-soprano)Teenage bubbly daughter to the Mayor. Secretly running around with Tommy.

GRACIE SHINN - 8 to 10. Zaneeta’s precocious younger sister.

ALMA HIX - (mezzo-soprano) 30’s to 50’s. Local busy body townswoman

MRS SQUIRES - (mezzo-soprano) 30’s to 50’s. Jacey’s wife. Local busy body.

MAUDE DUNLOP - (mezzo-soprano) 30’s to 50’s. Ewert’s wife. Another local gossip.

ETHEL TOFFELMIER - (mezzo-soprano) Can be curvaceous 35, expressive enthusiastic player piano player. Girlfriend to Marcellus.

TOMMY DJILAS - (Tenor or high baritone) 20’s to play teen. Excellent dancer. Punk teen known as the town trouble maker from wrong side of the tracks. Actually bright young mind needing the right encouragement which he gets from Hill.

OLIN BRITT (Bass) 30’s to 50’s. Runs Gazette newspaper. Part of Barbershop Quartet.

EWERT DUNLOP (Second Tenor) 30’s to 50’s. Owns grocery store. Part of Barbershop Quartet.

JACEY SQUIRES- (High Tenor) 30’s to 50’s. Owns livery stable. Part of Barbershop Quartet.

OLIVER HIX - (Baritone) 30’s to 50’s. Runs the local bank. Part of Barbershop Quartet.

CHARLIE COWELL - Mid-30’s to 50’s. Resentful and ill tempered anvil salesman who has been burned by Hill’s past exploits in other towns. Doubles in Ensemble. Should sing and move well.

CONSTABLE LOCKE/CONDUCTOR - Mid 30’s to 50’s. Doubles in Ensemble. Should sing and move well.

RIVER CITY TEEN YOUTH - Seeking excellent Dancers (Late teens to 20’s to play teens) who sing well. Gymnastics a plus.

RIVER CITY TOWN FOLK - Seeking excellent Character actors who sing and move well or even dance. All types in Adult age ranges.

RIVER CITY CHILDREN - Seeking experienced child performers who sing and move.
