CAST:

Laila Robins: ELEANOR OF AQUITAINE

Seeking submissions for the following roles:

HENRY PLANTAGENET

King of England. 50’s-60’s. Robust, strong, masculine. A king through and through. Intelligent and passionate, he feels genuine love for his wife and children, but is clear-eyed about power and chooses it above all else. From James Goldman: “He has just turned 50, an age at which, in his time, men were either old or dead. Not Henry. Though arthritis comes occasionally and new battle wounds don't heal the way the old ones did, he still is very nearly all he ever was. He is enjoying that final rush of physical and mental vigor that comes to some men not before the end but just before the start of the decline.” ACTORS OF ALL ETHNICITIES STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO SUBMIT.

PHILIP

King of France. 18+ to play 17 years old. Strong, confident and unafraid. Strikingly handsome and with a somewhat dangerously available sexuality. Quick witted. More ruthless than he appears. From James Goldman: “Philip Capet is indeed impressive. He is tall, well proportioned and handsome without being at all pretty. His manner is open, direct and simple and he smiles easily. He has been a King of France for three years and has learned a great deal.” ACTORS OF ALL ETHNICITIES STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO SUBMIT.

STORYLINE:

“Well – what shall we hang? The holly or each other?” Set during Christmas 1183, The Lion in Winter tells the wickedly amusing tale of King Henry II, his imprisoned queen (released only for the holiday), and their three entitled sons who vie for the throne in a double-dealing division of the kingdom. With elegance and barbarism, devotion and disloyalty, this brutally funny family comedy is a high-stakes chess game where the pieces constantly change sides and no one is spared the sword.
