Part of Target Margin’s current two-season exploration of the Yiddish theater. The shtetl turns uncanny in this classic of Yiddish life. You might be expecting the farm life, the chicken-plucking and the arranged marriage, but not the S&M lust and the body-snatching wedding guests. The play is challenging in form and in tone. In the first act, we seem to be in a familiar world, a shtetl farm where grandfathers kvell over their granddaughters, homespun villagers pluck chickens, and the question of how a young girl is to be married off animates the action. “Fiddler on the Roof”? Not at all. The subsequent action grows more and more surreal. This play is Tevye on drugs.

Seeking ensemble members (m/f) for the following principal characters:

Theatre’s casting note: “Actors for this company must be comfortable working in various performance modes. Our company is experimental, and we plan to use stylized and formalized acting, exaggerated melodramatic, as well as more familiar psychologically based acting for this production. Performers must be comfortable not only with embracing those styles but shifting among them in the course of the production. Experience with classical drama and with experimental performance are both useful.”
