Breakdown

People say that there is someone for everyone, but when fate sends a letter to every person on Earth revealing their one true love, Meg is left alone without a match. Confused and hurt while her boyfriend flies across the world to meet his new love, she turns to her family and finds that she may just be better off without a soul mate. Smart Pretty Funny is a provocative and captivating comedy about love, loneliness, motherhood, and the idea that life never turns out the way you planned.

Meg: Early 30s. An accomplished cancer researcher who has devoted her life to logic and the scientific process. She is smart, pretty, funny - all rolled up in a fierce sense of humor. Her love life mirrors her career: Intense, devoted and loyal - to a fault.

Alicia: 60s. Meg’s mother. Sophisticated and smart. Loves her work and her children deeply. A guilty widow searching for peace.

Sophia: 40s. Meg’s older sister. By society’s standards, she has it all: a devoted husband, child, and home; but she longs for fame and success as an actress and is starting to panic that she’ll never achieve her dreams. Impulsive, idealistic and romantic.

David: 40s. Sophia’s husband. A professor of cinematic studies. He plans and anticipates everything. He is not a risk taker. Sophia is his source of adventure, which he loves . . .except when it makes him crazy.

Teddy: Early 60s. Scholarly and quiet. A widower who’s wife was taken from him abruptly. Enjoys the finer things in life: good food and fine wine. He watches and listens to the world around him closely. He sees what no one else seems to. When he does speak, his opinions are strong and thought-provoking.

Casting Note: We are looking for actors that reflect our diverse world. Casting will be inclusive.
