SEEKING
Equity actor/singers who rap for two understudies. All other roles have been CAST, but actors may be considered for possible replacements if they should become needed. See breakdown
PREPARATION
Bring picture and resume. Actors will read from 1 side, performing with a rhythm mp3. IMPORTANT NOTE and INSTRUCTIONS: Select one side (only 1 side) from those listed on the Wojcik | Seay casting website (link: https://wscasting.com/audition_info/othello-the-remix/). There are rhythm mp3’s there as well. Only copies of the Sides will be available at the audition for view with the AEA monitor prior to going into the room. The AEA monitor will not be able to provide actors with an electronic device with the mp3 file on it on the day of the EPA. The mp3 will only be available during your audition in the room.

Synopsis
This fresh take on Shakespeare’s tragedy is spun out and lyrically rewritten over original beats by The Q Brothers—America’s leading re-interpreters of Shakespeare through hip-hop. A rockin’ night of rhythm and rhyme and a new way to think about Shakespeare, Othello: The Remix delivers an intense, high energy spin like no other.
Since its world premiere as part of the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad at Shakespeare’s Globe the production has toured widely, captivating audiences around the world, and garnering tremendous acclaim and multiple honors.
All men play multiple characters and are expert rappers.

Understudy #2
Male 20’s – 30’s any ethnicity. Covers G & Jax = Brabantio/Iago/Cassio/Emilia : IAGO is an underground rapper who has been in Othello’s crew since its inception. He is the best lyricist of the bunch,
and a hip hop purist who is disgusted by the way rap is turning into mainstream pop music. (Archetype: Early Eminem) CASSIO is the newest member of Othello’s crew. He is a great dancer who raps about dancing and flirting with the ladies. For him, entertainment is paramount. Rap comes second. (Archetype: Will Smith) EMILIA is Iago’s wife and close friend of Desdemona. She is always trying to get Iago’s affection and attention, but to no avail. She is supportive of his career and only receives verbal abuse in return. BRABANTIO is Desdemona’s father. He is a stuffy and conservative senator and does not approve of her relationship with Othello.

African American Male 20’s – 30’s. Covers Pos- Othello: OTHELLO is a modern day hip hop mogul. He is a gifted rapper and a self-made entrepreneur who escaped the pitfalls of the ghetto he was raised in. He is now the most respected rapper in the music industry, with over ten million records sold. (Archetype: Jay-Z, The Game)
