Breakdown

Instructions for AEA members to make an appointment:
For a singing/acting appointment, please email Robert.Miller@ostcri.org beginning 4/20/14. Equity Members without appointments will be seen throughout each audition day, as time permits on a first-come-first-serve basis. No appointment needed for dance audition.

Preparation Instructions:

Singing/acting auditions: Please prepare two brief songs (one up-tempo and one ballad) appropriate to summer shows. Note that there may be time to perform one selection only. Bring sheet music in the correct key; an accompanist will be provided, but will not transpose. If auditioning for Always…Patsy Cline, please also bring a brief monologue. Some may be asked to stay for the dance call. Bring appropriate dancewear and character shoes.

Dancing auditions: Please be warmed up and ready to dance when the call begins. Wear appropriate dancewear and have character shoes. Some may be asked to stay and sing after all have danced. Please prepare 16 bars of a musical theatre song. Bring sheet music in the correct key; an accompanist will be provided, but will not transpose.

All bring a picture & resume, stapled back-to-back.

PATSY CLINE/LOUISE SEGAR UNDERSTUDY
Looking for an actress/singer capable of covering both roles.

- Patsy Cline: 30s; Dynamic and passionate actress that can embody Patsy Cline in voice and spirit. Ability is mimic her unique vocal sound is imperative.

- Louise Segar: 40s; Strong storyteller and comedic actress with a big heart. Must be able to 'hold the stage' and comfortable interacting with the audience.

Seeking:

SKY MASTERSON:
Male. 30s. Baritone. A handsome and charming gambler. Sky is immensely likeable, oozes charm and has a smooth crooner’s style.

SARAH BROWN:
Female. 20s-early 30s. Soprano. Prim Salvation Army officer. A sheltered and optimistic missionary. Naturally beautiful and elegant with a silky vocal quality.

NATHAN DETROIT:
Male. 30s-early 40s. Baritone. A facilitator of illegal gambling. A risk taker in life but rarely a gambler himself. He strings along the love of his life, Miss Adelaide, with vague promises of a future together but never a commitment.

MISS ADELAIDE:
Female. 30s. Mezzo. A classic, comic showgirl and gambler’s moll. A nightclub singer who longs for a conventional family life away from New York City.

ARVIDE ABERNATHY:
Male. 50s-60s. Baritone. Sarah’s grandfather and member of the Save-a-soul Mission. A sweet man with a kind heart and the best of intentions.

MATILDA CARTWRIGHT:
Female. 40s-50s. Mezzo. Salvation Army matron. Authoritative by necessity, steadfast in her desire for order, but motivated by charity.

LT BRANIGAN:
Male. 40s-50s. Spoken - but should be able to support ensemble vocally. Typical NYC cop trying to outwit and outmaneuver Nathan’s plans of finding a location for a craps game.

NICELY-NICELY JOHNSON:
Male. 30s-50s. Tenor. An eccentric gambler and Nathan’s closest associate who sings “Fugue for Tin Horns.” An ensemble member who then needs to bring home “Sit Down Your Rockin’ the Boat.” This role does not need to be a strong dancer but should be a mover.

RUSTY CHARLIE:
Male. 30s-50s. Bari-Tenor. An eccentric gambler who sings “Fugue for Tin Horns.” This role does not need to be a strong dancer but should be a mover.

BENNY SOUTHSTREET:
Male. 30s-50s. Bari-Tenor. An eccentric gambler who sings “Fugue for Tin Horns.” This role does not need to be a strong dancer but should be a mover.

ENSEMBLE:

Female Ensemble: 20s-30s. Strong, sexy dancer/singers to portray Miss Adelaide’s Hot Box Girls. Also portray various characters of NYC, Cuban dancers (partnering skills a plus) and mission workers.

Male Ensemble: 20s-30s. Strong, athletic dancer/singers to dance the craps shooter’s ballet. Also portray various characters of NYC, Cuban dancers (partnering skills a plus), and mission workers.

NOTE: ALL SMALLER ROLES AND UNDERSTUDIES WILL BE CAST FROM THE ENSEMBLE
