BREAKDOWN

Ms. McGery - drama teacher, age 55. Very theatrical. Lost her job teaching theatre when the school converted to a Charter school, she is now the school janitor.

Melissa - age 17, a high school math genius but gets stage fright when at math competitions. She wants to be discovered as a famous mathematician while still in school. She is obsessed with Einstein. Mezzo soprano.

Mary Kate - age 17. She is a Catholic feminist. She is angry that the school went from an all-girl school to co-ed, so out of solidarity to the nuns who ran the school, she wears a mini version of her Catholic school girl uniform. She excels at calculus. mezzo-soprano.
Amber - age 17. She is a member of the four foxes a mean girl group. She is a genius at applied math and trigonometry. She is pretty, snotty but has a good heart. Mezzo soprano

Barbie - age 18. She is a senior and is an eccentric. She has synesthesia - she sees numbers as colors and patterns. Extreme math problems give her pleasure and are quite easy for her. She lives in a bit of a fantasy world believing that unicorns are real. Mezzo soprano

Leroy - age 17. He is an awkward boy homeschooled by his missionary parents. He was born in Salt Lake City but spent his whole childhood in Laos. He is awkward with girls and does not know the jargon of US teenagers. Junk food in new to him and he is excited about each new junk food find. Tenor.
